Default 25NL Rush 6max, set on scary river BvB

Villain is 24/18 over a small sample, taggy. I'm totally confused what he could have on the river. Do we ever turn our hand into a bluff to fold straights? Just check it back? Value bet?

    Full Tilt No-Limit Hold'em, $0.25 BB (6 handed) - Full-Tilt Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

    saw flop

    CO ($12.50)
    Button ($25)
    SB ($83.65)
    Hero (BB) ($45.54)
    UTG ($20.02)
    MP ($31.78)

Preflop: Hero is BB with 8, 8
4 folds, SB bets $0.75, Hero calls $0.50

    Flop: ($1.50) 7, 9, 8 (2 players)
SB bets $1.25, Hero raises to $4.75, SB calls $3.50

    Turn: ($11) 5 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $8, SB calls $8

    River: ($27) 10 (2 players)
    SB checks, Hero ?

i would check back here. he could have 2 pairs, set, straight or he was drawing to a flush. the safe way for me would be ck back, i am fraid that betting will give him chance to 3bet me strong and i will fold. you have SD value so check.

Though I think we're often good against his range for getting to the river I doubt we have enough equity against his calling range to value bet. Check it back.

Looks like a check back. The different draws he could have completed plus his calls on flop and turn make it look like his setting you up for a 3bet c/r.
