hey welcome to FTR, my personal recommendation is don't make any specific money goals if your just learning, poker can be an angry bitch, and not meeting certain financial goals will probably be very disheartening.instead focus on learning and make goals such as play x amount of tournaments or review x amount of HH etc. etc. start posting hands or full tournaments here and let some of the really good players here help. i think its by far the best way to learn. because i think lots of players worry about this (i know i did at first) don't worry how standard or simple the hand might seem if you have a question about it, post it. people here won't mind giving you there insight.

as for BR management look in the beginners circle forum under the the beginners digest sticky, there's a good article on BR management.

Hello Lee, welcome to FTR. Check out the stickies, you can learn a lot from those.

As for type of game it really depends on what you enjoy and what suits your game. Cash is usually deeper and has more streets where you will need to make decisions. In SNGs you are usually making your decision pre-flop or on the flop as to whether the hand is good enough. SNGs are also much higher variance compared to cash since there are a lot more times you will be shoving all your chips into the middle. As a pro player you'll definitely want 100x BIs behind you.

In consideration of cash, it's lower variance and easier to move up the stakes. Playing at 200NL is perfectly reasonable if you master some of the finer points of the game. You will be earning rakeback faster as well since SNG players in games above $27 usually just end up shoving chips between themselves and no one is really a big winner. Getting enough volume at $27 games and above will be an issue.

Finally, I'm not sure how experienced a poker player you are but most players need a lot of experience to make it as a pro player. Experience players deal better with tilt and bad beats and are therefore able to get their volume in. They know their game inside out and know when to bet, check-call or check-fold. A book can tell these things but at the end of the day you will have to find a style of play that is comfortable and fun for you.

    Best of luck mate.

Hi, thanks alot for the info you gave me, i really appreciate it, there is a few things i need to work on in my game and am working pretty hard to improve on them as im constantly looking up on poker and ways to improve my game, if im honest im finding myself learning and studying poker abit more than i am playing at the moment and i think im getting there slowly,

I believe my game has improved over the past couple of weeks due to studying on all areas of poker and hope that in a few weeks time i can learn abit more and over time find my style and be confident enough sit at a table and give it a good try,

    thanks lee
