Default mid pair bb, 2 kicker

    PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, 6.5 Tournament, 100/200 Blinds (5 handed) - PokerStars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

    SB (t2225)
    Hero (BB) (t1718)
    UTG (t2772)
    MP (t2775)
    Button (t4010)

    Hero's M: 5.73

Preflop: Hero is BB with ,
3 folds, SB calls t100, Hero checks

    Flop: (t400) , , (2 players)
SB checks, Hero assumedly bets, and if so, how much and whats the plan?

there ahd been about 4 occasions where the table folded around to sb, every time he completed. wanted to shove at some point but i had a 2 kicker each time.

earlier in the game he d limped from ep with A9 or A6s and called oop. he did sth similar with me too but i took it down on flop. hadnt been able to see his cards but its safe to assume he s completing quite iwde i think.

I'd check behind. We'll have more of a chance to extract something out of him on later streets. His wide range makes the threat of bad cards like A, K, Q, 9 less serious.

How aggressive is he (will he stab the turn if we check often?) and how much of a station is he. My default is to bet 250ish on this flop with the majority of my range, in this case I think you can actually be betting for value.

If that gets called probably check back the turn (likely fold if he bets out), and call on good rivers for our hand.

yeah think i concur. from what i recall he was generally cbetting each time, so the check probably indicates weakness here.
assuming his range is wide, if he d raised my flop bet (think it was ~280),
    what do we do?

nb hadnt seen this kind of play from him up to this point.

There seems to be a flaw in logic here.

Players at this level always check trips....

I think both checking and betting here are both valid plays. Checking allows you to extract some value from hands that might assume they are good on turn or river. The disadvantage is that this is a really passive way to play the pot, so we are giving up a lot of control in the pot and allow him to stab the turn or river. We also give many hands an opportunity to improve and better our hand.

Betting on the other hand gives us better control in the hand and the villain has to tip his hand more quickly. He might call with a draw, check the turn, which can check back and better control the pot size to the river. He might also stab a misssed draw on the turn, which we can obviously beat. By betting the flop we obviously open ourselves to being re-raised and pushed off the hand, but mostly our opponent will have Jx here and we will be folding the worst hand. Occasionally he will have a draw and we will be pushed off the better hand.

On the balance of things, I prefer the more aggressive option of betting because it gives us better hand control and also more ways of winning the pot.

I agree with Naka, I would bet 250 on the flop and take it from there. Worse hands (ie. pocket pairs 22-99 and straight draws, maybe even overcards) will definitely call a bet. If our bet gets called and opp bets the turn, I would say that we're beat at that stage. If opp checks the turn then we check behind to try to get to showdown as cheaply as we can.
