    Default Austrian queens crazier than Ludwig II in bavaria?

    standard playing cards i found somewhere in austria or bavaria - the queens are less feminine than most? is this just standard central european confusion re gender?



    and as for King Ludwig II of Bavaria - I'm all in favour of royalty getting into weird sex, smoking opiates, and building strange castles

    It seems the Bavarian system has no Queen, but rather an Ober and Unter (High and Low ranking knave). Cards that use the french ranks (D for Dame/Queen, B is Bube/Jack) have obv. females depicted on the D cards.
