1326: A fighter in Sirte has told the BBC his account of the reported capture. Mohammed, a young fighter in his 20s, wearing a blue T-shirt and a New York Yankees baseball cap, said he had found the colonel hiding in a hole in the ground in the city of Sirte. He told the BBC that the former Libyan leader said to him simply: "Don't shoot".

1344: AFP has obtained a mobile phone image apparently of Col Gadadfi during his arrest. The picture shows a man who bears a strong resemblance to Gaddafi wearing blood-soaked clothing and with blood across his face. However the authenticity of the image has not been verified.

1448: NTC vice-chairman Abdul Hafiz Ghoga confirms that Col Gaddafi is dead - Reuters.

Apparently Gaddafi wanted to create a unified Arab/African currency set on a gold standard (the guy was sitting on a gold reserve half the size of UK's, with 1/10 of the population), which would be really bad for all countries who are trying their damndest to maintain the current fiat money scam.

By the way China is buying up shitloads of gold, and is telling their citizens to invest in gold bullion...

Don't know anything about Arafat, but I don't really disagree with Obama getting the Nobel. It wasn't so much retrospective as proactive i.e. Obama would have to make a whole bunch of decisions that could be more peaceful than not, and if he has the Nobel for peace he will have more pressure to live up to the standard

Not to mention that his foreign policy blows the pants off anything from the Bush era or what could have been the McCain era. The whole Libya thing has gone down the way it has because of Obama. If it was Bush or McCain, we'd be dealing with Iraq 2.0 or just further backing of Gaddafi. It's ironic that Obama's naysayers like to lament his receipt of the Nobel, then you see his most ardent haters like Bachmann contradict that position by saying he's responsible for the Arab Spring, which would entail that he deserves the hell out of that Nobel

I think Obama's foreign policy is a mix of good, meh and evil, sort of like Nixon. Actually, pretty much like most presidents. I know a guy who spent the year in Egypt, and I don't think wanting to get rid of the U.S.-propped up regime had anything to do with Obama.

I think Gaddafi was broke too since after NATO, UN, or whatever decided to go against him, they just froze his foreign assets, which was most everything.

While it is sensible for Obama to shake hands with Gaddafi like that, you won't see me happy that he refuses to be a revolutionary and actually stop murdering and torturing people abroad. The difference between Bush/Cheney and Obama is that the former does policy for more rape and pillaging while Obama does policy for less. He's nowhere near putting a stop to it, like I think he should
