KK bad fold?

    Default KK bad fold?

this a tourney hand, but i could see this situation just as easily in a ring game.

    - i didn't raise pfr because: 1. i didn't want the button and BB (no SB) to fold - ala slowplay, and 2. at this point in the tourney, people are playing ace anything, and i didn't want to over commit my stack, or get into an all-in situation if an ace flopped (which it did).

    - after the ace on the flop, i didn't want to risk any more chips.

    was this a bad play?

i ended up 3rd, so at least in the money.

    thanks.

Not sure I'd have folded there. The fact that Saddlebags05 only bet the minimum didn't seem as though he was representing the A. I would've probably put him on middle pair or a flush draw at that point and come over the top on him. If he re-raised you then get the hell outta Dodge.

That late in a tourney and KK on the pocket. Blinds are 50/100 right? Your stack is 980. I would probably have gone all in pre-flop if I thought anyone would call me. At least your stack is big enough to make major damage to the one who calls and you are a probable big favourite pre-flop. I think that would be the correct play but I'm not sure. It depends on the other players as well off course. If they call all-in's with Ax then it's harder but I still would raise at least the pot pre-flop but probably more. If I was the chip leader I would have played it a little different but I still would have raised big pre-flop. There's no cure against bad luck as I see it. Tours are tricky.

I agree with Bite, you have to raise this one Pre-flop. The blinds are big enough relative to your stack to make for an ok win, although the dead small blind sucks. If you're not raising here, then why raise anything? If you showdown KK without raising, what are they going to put you on when you do raise later? If you're not making a play here, then what exactly are you waiting for?

Although all-in probably isn't your best play here, since you really do want a caller.

this has definitely been a case of folders remorse. i ignored my instincts and tried to be tricky.

i should have raised pre flop.

thanks for confirming what i already knew.

    i'm mc fishstick
    and i'd like to say
i went and threw my kings away

    i tried to be tricky
    but failed instead
i should change my name to mc butthead

so the moral of this story
    is to play smart
or i'll have to quit poker and work at walmart

People at work think I am a bit crazy now that I laughed for no "apparent" reason. FTR boards in a quiet office can be risky!

if anybody asks, you're laughing at a clever piece of code you found on the FTR (Future Technologies Research) site.

hey, you're just trying to keep current.
