    Default Sit and Go run

A little background on myself as this is my first post here. I just started getting interested in playing Texas Holdem about a year ago. I have a tight money situation so I don't have alot of money to play with. I play poker online mostly for the fun not expecting to win alot. Anyway, I play on Poker Stars and about a month ago threw $50 into my account. I wasn't playing very well and needless to say was down to my last $6 about 1 week ago. I decided to play a SnG tourney with the rest of my money. Up to that point I hadn't won one of them in about 5 tries. I placed 3rd in the tourney and got my $9.

I then played another SnG $5 tourney this time I placed second. I have played 8 more tourney since then and here are the outcomes

    5th
    1st
    1st
    3rd
    4th
    1st
    4th
    2nd

My roll is now up to $90 and I will soon be playing the larger SnG tables.

Is it possible to have this kind of run on luck alone or would I have to have some kind of skill to do this well? I consider my playing style as tight and agressive especially early on in tourneys.

Just thought I'd share my story and see what everything thinks of this run.

    the $5 + .50 aren't that tough.

It might be luck or maybe not. But before you move up to the $10 SNG make sure you have the proper stake. I like about 10ish if I'm just playing a level i'm comfortable with. If I'm going to move up a level I'd take 20 buyin's with me, just to be safe. The game will probably be alot different at that level.

If your having trouble at that level then drop back down to the 5+.50 while you still have about 10 buyin's left.

I think I'll play the $5 tourney's till I reach $100 bank roll then move up. If I go back down to $50 I'll drop back down. Thanks for the advice.

    Welcome Inotreb/Bertoni!

Thats cool, the nickname is some sort of cryptic crossword clue type thing, I'm gonna stop talking now.

    Good luck with your SnGs.

And, as fishstick said to me a while ago, all the COOL FTR users are tourney players!.

Great, I've been outed already. How'd you think to flip it backwards?

I noticed the peculiar combination of letters -- mainly the "treb" part -- and figured it might be backwards. I always look for things like that in odd words.

    I'm weird like that.

You may want to give the $6 2 table turbo SNGs a try on there. Maybe its just me, but I've really cleaned up in those, placing in the money in all but 1 or 2. The players seem incredibally passive, and not very skilled, and when you win one of those, you win as much or more than you do in standard $10 SNGs, with less bankroll being risked.

Maybe its just me, but I love those 2 table turbos. They've really warmed me up to PS, which I was never a fan of before.

    Default Update

Okay I've played a couple more SnGs now and here are the results:

$6.50 Turbo SnG on PS - Lost miserably, I was too preocupied with the blinds and started pressing. Had my worst showing in 12+ tourney's with a 6th place showing. I don't think I'll play any Turbo tourneys anymore my game is more about patience and waiting for the big hand.

    $5.50 SnG on PS - 1st place

$11 SnG on PS - 1st place -- was down to 500 chips at one point but was able to double up and win some big pots.

I think I will stay on the $10 tourney's now.
