No idea on the first. The second looks like AJ or AT. Clearly the board gave him no help.

I'll get the history. Second hand was ace something suited. I had an overcard + flush draw with one card to go, which made it a fairly easy fold. I think I may have done a long pause here before folding just for show.

Blind defense here, didn't re-raise you enough to make you fold considering that you have post-flop position. If I push back harder, I think I get you to fold. I didn't push back hard enough. When nothing Q or higher comes on the flop I figure I'll swing at it considering that I've shown strength and hope you put me on AJ or a solid PP and fold. No such luck. Again, I should have pushed back harder pre-flop if I wanted you to bail.

Another blind defense. Gutsy with a weak ace, but I wanted SO badly for you to leave my blinds alone. Again, I don't think I pushed back hard enough to make a marginal hand fold since you are going to have post-flop position. Thought very hard about swinging at the pot on the flop since I've represented strength, but decided that I'll respect the fact a decent face card flopped that I don't have. I'm also a little timid since the last time I tried that play you came over the top of me. When the turn comes with yet another face card I don't have and you raise big I'm done with this hand despite my few outs.

Just curious...how big a re-raise pre-flop would it have taken to make you go away in each of these hands? I correctly guessed you were raising with non-ace non-PP hands in each case, but obviously didn't push back hard enough. All-in would have been a bit extreme since only a dominating hand calls me (probably a better ace), although in the second example I'm already putting like a third of my stack in there anyways so AI may have been the way to go for my bluff.

I love the hand where you pushed back all-in with 2 overcards + a str8 draw. Pretty standard play, but some might have been timid considering you're not sure how strong my hand is (considering the pre-flop action). Nice.

Thanks for sharing. The neat thing about Showdowns is the ability to compare notes with other solid players afterwards.

If you show me AJ, I'm still calling once I saw the flop.

All-in might make me fold KQ. I have enough all-in value to call if I think you're pushing back thin I call. It really depends on how selective you've been pushing back up until then. Once the blinds get silly, it's all about blind wars and picking your spot to gamble (if you're not willing to gamble you lose by default.) I knew you guys weren't calling thin, so I was splashing around a lot and in the process some otherwise solid players came back at me with weak holdings. Overall, I think I only made one mistake playing blind wars, however it was a pretty big one.

    Re: hand 164

I was at the bookstore yesterday and browsed through Bobby Baldwin's HE book. One of the more interesting tidbits was "don't bluff at a board with a Jack and a Ten."
  7. #7
Funny you bring that up. I've been thinking about this hand a lot. You stood a re-raise on this hand pre-flop, meaning that there's a good, good chance you've got two high cards in your hand, meaning:

    1. You've hit something on the flop

OR (and this is more likely)

    2. You've got 2 overcards AND a draw to the high straight for an ideal semi-bluff situation.

Why exactly did I think I could get you to fold here? Did I hope you'd put me on JJ or TT??

    Stupid, stupid play. Lesson learned.

Hmmm I sound worryingly like Mike Sexton there. Or maybe I was just excited, with it being Showdown day and everything,
