Default I think my fold was wrong, playing to tight against a maniac

Tonight at the local no limit tournament i was sitting at the table with 3 others. In this hand Im BB and the maniac is to my right so hes SB.

    Preflop: I have A6 os
UTG fold, 2 fold, maniac calls, I check

    Flop : 2d 3h 3d
    maniac checks, I check

    Turn: Ah
maniac checks, I bet 2x bb, maniac raises 4x bb, I fold

When he raised me i figured he was slowplaying a 3. That was really the only thing going through my head, I saw after that he could of also had a straight but didnt think of it at the time.

So was this to tight of a play against a maniac? if not whats a better way to deal with this seemingly meaningless madness?

I would have reraised him back substantially. Unless he's one to slowplay big hands preflop I'd put him on 2 overcards (possibly suited) and reraise him back. I'd think he would just smooth call your raise on the turn and let you bet out on him again on the river if he had trips.

I think your 2xBB bet is a bit weak. I would try at least 2.5x and try to discourage bluffing. I think all 3 choices are fine, call, fold, raise, depending on what you want to do. If you truely believe you have the best hand a call or raise is a must. However, if you raise you must be willing to "gamble" since its very possible your will be putting some more chips in the pot and you dont know where you stand on best hand. Maniac opp could have nothing or Ace pair better kicker, or trips. Essentially if you challenge you are risking alot of chips and guessing opp is bluffing (Or betting a pair of 2's?).

For me, depending on the blind levels, opps in, etc., would help me determine which way to play. If you are close to the money and otehr folks on the bubble, passive play (e.g. folding) is very reasonable.
