Default Bad play?? Or bad luck?

Did i play this hand wrong? or did i simply just run into some bad luck. I cant seem to finish higher than 4th in a single table tourney (placed 2nd ONCE). anyways...how would you have played this hand?

IMO he never should have called my preflop raise (maybe i should have raised more?) anyways, i dont know what to do at this point....i cant seem to break into the money in tournaments, ring games kill me and once again, ive almost busted out of what i deposited.

Six tourneys so far this time around and ive finished 6th, 4th, 4th, 2nd, 5th and 4th

    very frusterating

The BB is 1/3 of your stack, it's monkey poker time. Push pre-flop.

That is so wrong. Any hand without an Ace or King is only a 60/40ish dog to Big Slick. You never gave him a good reason to fold.

What you did looks like a blind steal and I'm sure that's why angie called.
I don't know what they have to say
    It makes no difference anyway.
    Whatever it is...
    I'm against it.

yeah, the more i think about it the more i realize the mistakes i made. I won my first tourney today...but i still have A LOT to learn about this game, i guess thats why im here

I wonder what your normal raise is? If you've raised 3x BB previous to now, he's thinking you have a crappy hand on the min raise.

On the other end I will say that in your spot if I do have a monster like AA I might be tempted to go low hoping for a re raise.

    JJ,

First of all, the 5+1 tourneys give almost 17% to the house. You should be playing the 10+1 tourneys simply because you are only giving up 9% to the house. That 8% makes a huge difference in the long run.

Secondly, u are far too impatient and your bankroll is not nearly big enough. You need a sample size of at least 100 of the those tourneys to really begin to get an idea if your play is profitable. Scared money will change your play and will always end up the pocket of someone who is more comfortable with it.

Lastly, he was going to call that raise with any 2 cards. Look at his pot odds. There was 600 chips in the pot for a 300 call and he wouldnt be able to survive the blinds in 3 more hands. It was an ideal hand for you to get your chips in, he just hit and that's how it goes.

    Good luck in the future.

    Regards,

    Soupie

    Fnord pegged it.
Your short stacked with big blinds. All-in preflop with this one.

As for post flop. If any one move is going to leave me with less than 40% of my stack then I'm just pushing it all-in.

My only other advice would be to get off of party poker for SnG's..
move your SnG game to poker stars.

This will make your head spin (but will be no surprise to Rippy and a couple others)

    pokenum -h ks ah - th 7s
    Holdem Hi: 1712304 enumerated boards
cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV
    Ks Ah 1118313 65.31 585779 34.21 8212 0.48 0.656
    7s Th 585779 34.21 1118313 65.31 8212 0.48 0.344

    all-in pot: 2100
    Your EV: 1377.6
    His EV: 722.4

If you pushed pre-flop, it's a ~28 chip EV difference between him calling and folding, but folding is barely the better play.

So from a pure chip EV perspective it doesn't matter much what he does! Only tourney bubble strategy really forces a fold in hopes of a better spot. Although folding pre-flop would have been the *far* better play if he didn't want to gamble here. Putting in those extra 150 chips really puts him in a spot (because of doubling the Nth chip has more value than the Nth + 1 chip.)

...and people wonder why I don't like SnGs much...
