Default $10+1 SNG competition harder or just unlucky?

I started playing poker online about 3 weeks ago, depositing $40 onto Platinum Poker (different skin of Doyle's Room if anyone has ever heard of that They're sending me a free super system 2 for getting enough action points ). I started at the SNG tourneys (9 person tourneys here) and quickly started to dominate them. Once I increased my bankroll enough, I moved up buyins from 3+.30 to 5+.50. Once again, I was doing pretty well so I decided to move up another level to the 10+1 buyin. The rest... well .. just scroll down to the 10+1 SNG stats

Since then I have moved to limit HE at partypoker, but after experiencing bad beat after bad beat tonight, I have decided to go back to SNGs. What do you guys think of the massive performance decrease @ the 10+1 tables?

what do i think about your performance decrease?

well obviously you need to work on your sng skills. 10+1 will obviously bring better players than 3+0.3. just keep playing more, and keep reading up strategies, you'll come around.

even so, 13 is a very small sample size, maybe you just had a bad run. play more and see what happens.

Competition definetly gets stiffer. this is how I generally see competition.

    5$ Easy
10$ moderate (generally many up and coming players with small bankrolls prowl these)
20-25$ about the same as 10
    30$ easier then 10 or 20
50$ suprisingly easy for the money entry.

Of Course it can all very by game... I had a 6$ turbo game that had 4 people playing very well and blinds were 300 600 (at a 9 person sng the game is generally over at this point). I ended up taking it down, but it was definetly one of the most challenging SNG's i've ever played in.

Radashack, why do you say the $30 SnGs are easier than the cheaper ones? I've been reluctant to move up to that level even though I've done well at $10-20 since I figured the play would be much stiffer there.

Easier because the competition was just easier to beat. Could partly be because you have some people playing out of their bankroll, therefore changing their game (must win situations for them). Could also be because there is generally less maniacs there and the level of play is better (which IMO is easier to beat). It was just soemthing that I observed over the past few months,

Ruke of thumb have a minimum 15x buy-in for your bankroll.

I havent found much of a difference between $30 and $20 SnG. I prefer the maniacs at the table (reduces playing field faster than normal). Youll know if the table is tough if there are lots of opps left after 50ish hands or so.

I usually play $10-20 SnG and don't find them too tough...there is the occasional 2 table $10 that goes on for 2 hours...but not usually. The only $30+ SnG I have played in was yesterday. It was like a $36 two table SnG sattelite for the PS $530 buy-in Sunday tournament. Unfortunately, I bubbled out in third. First gets the $530 buy-in second gets around $25 and third....bupkis. Anyway I found the competition to be extremely tough....at least as tough as the FTR Gauntlet games. I'm not sure if all $30 SnG's are like this or if it was just because it was a sattelite, but I found it to be a very hard level to play at. I may try a $30 single table regular SnG just to see how I do, but I would not want to work that hard to win on a regular basis.....give me a soft $10-20 SnG anyday.

Those satilites attract tough competition, there are usually about 4 or 5 people just "hopeing" and another 13 good players. I've won one and lost many
