Can't really imagine T-8d calling a 6x BB preflop raise....I suppose my lack of imagination was my undoing.

    Dave, Dave, Dave,

I know you got what it takes to win one of these, but stop with the bad beats. This crap happens to us all. When you win these hands you win the tourney. Take a deck of cards and deal this scenerio out a 100 times and then tell me you didnt want that call with the 10-8.

Good luck. Your gonna crack one real soon.

As usual you are exactly right Soupie, most of the time he would have doubled me up and I would have been in excellent shape for the rest of the tournament. However there is just something catartic about letting out the frustration and trying to get your head on straight again....poker is a very emotional game - particularly tournament poker. Ring games seem so much easier to beat...at least more relaxed (no pressure from the blinds, if you make a mistake you can simply buy back in, more time to be patient and pick your spots)
Anyway it is nice to have a place like this to occasionally vent to people that understand - (The wife says: "what...so you lost $10, go play a cash game and you will win it back in 5 minutes")
It is also nice to have people like you Soupie, who take the time to help the newer players improve....and give us a swift kick in the ass and tell us to suck it up and get back in there when we need it - so thank you again for your help.

Funny I cracked Aces last night on a similar hand, except the aces only raised 2xbb so I called with a J8 suited flop the straight and doubled up.
I'm on a horrible streak though I havn't hit the money is 7 straight tourney's now, last night I would hit the hand to propel me to the final table and got runner runner flushed to beat my AK two pair.

Now my online bankroll is depleted for a little while so I am pokerless . So it could be worse Dav you couldn't even be able to play anymore .

Don't sweat the ITM finish too much, it will happen for you. It take tons of time and discipline, but you'll get there

    Dave,

What you choose to focus on expands in your reality. Focus on the bad stuff and you will think life sucks. Focus on the great stuff and you will love life. Reality is nothing more than what you chose to focus on. If the games fair, and I believe the online poker sites to be, it is conterproductive to focus on bad beats. You need to make them a positive.

I try to bust out of every tourney on a bad beat. Celebrate them because you have played your best. And if you play your best, youre getting the money sooner or later.

With MTT, your wins are few and far between, but they are huge. In 730 tourneys without my top ten to 15 wins, I would be breakeven for the year.

    Regards,

I have two things to say..

First o all, dav I know how you feel, you played perfectly and still didnt manage to land ITM, it hurts a lot, especially if you go out with aces which just makes everything worst IMO

Second of all, Suopie, how much money do you win when you land in the top 10 in one of the MTT's you play?

If your hitting final tables you are pretty much looking in the 1000's. Unfortunetly I have bills to pay =/

Final table last night would have been from around: $200 for 9th to roughly $1800 for 1st Of course the money would have been nice, but right now finishing ITM for a 600-1000 person tournament just to mark one in the win column is more important than the money. I am doing well at ring games to fund my tourney play....I beleive I am now at 38 MTT's ranging from $5.50-$33 buyins (usually the $10+1 variety though) No finishes ITM, I have actually come closer than I did last night, but last night I played better than I ever had & I was/would have been in a good chip position going into the break. I am over it now...and will be playing again tonight in one $10 MTT and probably the FTR Gauntlet as well.
Soupies comments remind me of a quote by Charles Swindoll that I try to live by. Essentially life is 10% of what happens to you and 90% of how you choose to react to it. We choose to adopt our attitude for the day...if we choose negativity - it is remarkable how often our day goes poorly. If we choose a positive outlook our day usually goes much more smoothly - at least we are better equiped to handle the adversity that life throws at us.

    Elanto,

I have 4 wins greater than 10k this year of which I have only won one of those tourneys. My biggest win was 5th place. I will cut and paste it here from tales of poker.

I have won several, but here is how my biggest money win went down.

I was playing in the 200,000 guarantee on party that runs on saturdays. There was 19 left and my isp (dial up) went totally tits up. I could not get back on to save my life, called the operator and everything. In my absence, posting and folding i moved all the way up to 5th and won 11900. Slept right through my biggest win. I suspect there is a lesson to be learned there.

    Dave,

Thanks for coming around. I've played with you and you got what it takes. Just stay focused and positive.

    Radashack,

I have played with you and you got skills. How in the heck can you blow your wad? You have to protect your bankroll at all costs. Stay focused and you will be making an extra six figures a year. That enough motivation?

    Good luck all,

    Soupie

bad streak that my bankroll could not absorb (bad planning on my part/not enough spare cash). Hopefully that will be changing however.

I did pretty darn well tonight in the 10+1 MTT. I placed 96th out of 953.....ITM was 81st place. I could have coasted for a while with my 9800 chips...but there were a bunch of limpers at $600 each and I pushed from the button with 99 and ran into QQ. Figured it was better to go for excellent chip postition rather than shooting for 81st. Feeling much better now, two nights in a row and two respectable showings.... there is always tomorrow's tournament.
Missed you tonight at the Gauntlet Soupie.

Dav I watched your play pretty close there, you were doing everything right, until that hand (though things seem to go that way until you finally break through that sort of play)

Here a good thing to keep in mind at that stage of the tourney, would you throw all your chips into the pot on 99 in the beginning on the tourney? why do it at the end and bust yourself out?

99 is a decent hand (and doubled you up earlier in the tourney), but its easily beaten, one thing I try to run through my head at that stage is don't call pre-flop all in's and don't go all in preflop unless A) you have AA KK or similar or B) the chip stacks give you a reason to go all in. (ie you need to double up or you will be eaten by blinds in 2-4 rounds)... overall good show, you did well, and if you keep it up you'll be pulling down money soon.

You are right - probably just a lapse in judgement - got too greedy. In the moment it seemd like the right thing to do....easier to push from my position, rather than call from his. Calling off 99% of his stack with QQ was pretty gutsy....let go of $600 or push. I would certainly like to be the one pushing with QQ rather than calling with it. I was just hoping to bluff everyone out...and if not race against A-K, A-Q.
Your point is well taken though, pushing with that hand means that the only callers I will get are the hands that already beat me...or have the potential to beat me.
I agree....I would have limped with 9-9 early in the tourney looking to hit the flop, just got too Laggy there at the end.

    Default dcsad

Dont worry bud we all make choices we regret, but in your situation i think most of us would have done the same. For example im in a sng, i catch 2 pair off the flop, a 2 and a 4. The flop was 2 4 8. I call all in because the blinds are quite high and I want a fish to cal me with an 8 or whatever he has. I get called, cards turn up, he has A 5. im thinking SWEET. Next think you know we got a 2 4 8 3 j. Damn guy catches a straight! He called my all in without even a pair on the flop, i cant believe he made this call, maybe it was smart but i say it was luck. Luckily his all in was not enough to wipe me out and i made a come back.
Drop it like its hot *the flop*
