I'm trying to figure out what he mucked. Maybe a pocket pair? Either way, sometimes you can pull it off....

I think thats the point...P4 folded his two pair on the river and Ragingg showed the bluff and it put P4 on tilt.....just how I'm reading it anyway.

It's a risky play for sure, but if you're going to run a big bluff it's not a bad idea to set it up like you did here--put a callable raise in on the flop and then if he calls and then checks the turn, put in a big bet. Also, in this particular hand, two things: 1. Why are you calling a 4x bb PF raise with A3o? 2. There is over $40 in the pot on the flop and he is betting only $8 into it. I'd have trouble not trying to take the pot away from him with a weak bet like that, though there's always the risk he has an overpair he won't be able to get away from. With the call/check he made though it seems like he's getting ready to muck to a big bet on the turn, so you made the right play.

Not too risky if he knew his player. The oh so important thing, play the player not the cards, right? Well sometimes... I'd keep betting him if he was tight, if he was passive and kept calling I'd check the um river, yes the river I do believe.

I make plays like this sometimes to make people think I'm a lot looser than I am, and set them up to take them big. I like the way you played the hand except for the turn, where you may have overbet a bit too much. A $20 -$30 bet probably would've had the same effect of getting him to fold, without as much risk. But, its kind of hard to tell exactly what the pot size and what your stack was at the time too, so it may have been justified.

Anyway, I like it, but recommend for beginning players to never try something like this in a NL ring game. Especially with the small stack size compared to the big preflop bet though, you gotta tighten up after that, and make sure you have a hand the next time you call a big preflop bet and then shove in. You've set yourself up to get called a lot more often after showing that one, which is great for you if you tighten up at the right time.

yes.. you cant be making this moves on a regular basis, you have to make them only when you have an excellent read on the player (which you did). To make this play work your timing also needs to be perfect because if it isnt youll end up loosing a lot of chips. I agree with Michaels advice, a 20-30 dollar bet would have had the same effect with very little risk from your part. One last thing, be extremely careful when making this kind of moves, this time it worked like a charm, but maybe next time youll get called and loose hundreds of dollars, caution my friend and youll be fine...

I never did answer the questtion. I think it is a great, bold move....particularly since it worked out. I like the move, not because of the money you won with it, but the money you will win with it down the line. The next time you pull this....say 5 hands later when you just made a small set - you will get at least one caller if not two that play along. You slap them in the face with your set, take all thier money - That is when you have them. They don't know what to make of you anymore - and they fear you. You bet - they fold everything but the absolute best hands.
