i guess he paired the ace at the end, eh?

You did fine. Bet big on every card. You made him pay to chase. He just got a gift from the river fairy. It happens.

Don't let his catch keep you from playing the jacks hard like that. They will pay off. heck, if he didn't catch the ace, 6% chance i think, you would have doubled up.

I would guess he made a spade flush on the turn. And no, there's no way to avoid it. You bet hard in an attempt to dissuade the fish... it didn't work. Some people just can't be dissuaded. You just file it under "I'll make money off this guy in the long run."

Actually, I kind of disagree a little. The one observation I'll offer is that your bet of 2300 preflop seems soft to me with JJ. Looking at the stack sizes going into the hand, asking him to put an additional 1700 chips in (he had already called the 600 blind) was not that much with a relatively decent starting hand - particularly with that many chips at his disposal.

Without knowing what he held, it may have been an awful play on his part (if he held something weak like As4s) or not a bad call if he held something better like AsJs, or something even better).

For me, JJ is not a hand that I want soemone to call. It is a hand that I want to take the pot down with preflop. Raising bigger may have done that - or maybe not. I'm curious to see the results when you post them.

P.S. It occurs to me that he might have been holding 77 also.

AJ, one big mistake you made in your post was the idea of "chips at his disposal." These people are in survival mode right now, so any raise is usually enough to push people out. Even if the other guy loses just the preflop and flop bets, he's hurting.

    Preflop: Standard.

    Flop: Excellent.

Turn: Scary. The card isn't *that* bad of a scare card but it could make some unlikely holdings a good hand. You still can't allow someone like KT or AT a free look at the river.

River: Let the cards fall how they may.

I would have played it the same way and been happy with the result.

Good point about the survival mode idea, but I'll wait until he posts the actual hand history before I'm convinced that his raise preflop was enough. Maybe I'm just evaluating by my own standards - if it were me, and I had a good starting hand, I'd gamble that extra 1700 chips to see a flop. If I hit the flop hard, I have a chance to really build my stack and maybe win the whole thing. If I miss, easy fold and my stack is 12,060 with blinds at 300/600. Not exactly panic time.

Maybe it's my irrational fear of JJ

Then you're just playing cards. You need to leave some chips behind so you can buy the pot if you miss. By making the pot huge, it'll cost you a lot more chips to bet at the flop. Without feeler bets or anything, you'll have no real way of nailing down his hand and you'll basically be hoping that JJ is the best hand, which would be unlikely since most hands that are gonna call the big preflop and flop bets will beat JJ. Also by flying off the handle preflop with JJ you get no action and only nab the blinds, and that's just not fun.

I havent read any of the responses, so some people may have said this already...I think this guy had a pair of tens with a high kicker, maybe an ace bu prbably a king or queen. You played the hand well, and if he beats you with the ace then you prbably just got very unlucky.

UnderDog shows [ Jc, Jd ] two pairs, jacks and fives.
Player UnderDog finished in 31 place and received $2.75

The thing I could have done better was raise more preflop, I guess when I was betting I didn't take into the account that he had already called, and that my bet wasn't that much more, considering his stack. What I really want to know, is there any way I could have pushed him out of the pot after the flop?

I think there is no way this guy would have folded TP unless you went all in, even then he would have put you on a T, worst kicker. He thought he had the best hand, that is why he played it like that, you just got unlucky because he nailed his two pair at the river

    Have I done good?

    Anywho.

You played it perfectly, just lost. Some people will play the board ace-kicker assuming they'll split. With that action he simply had no clue what was goin on and got lucky in the end. You're a huge winner in the long run.
