Default Man, I wanted to play this hand...

I know there are many people who are iffy about Ax suited, but it's one of my favorite hands to play. Read on:

Late in a tourney, I'm dealt :Ac: . UTG (who sat down four hands before and has since been throwing his monster chip stack around like a club) raises to 3.5 BB preflop. This sucks for me, as I have 4 BB left in my stack.

I think about it for a while; I was already in the 'money' (free tourney) and was just playing for higher points. I LOVE Ax suited, but I figure if I'm going to call, I might as well re-raise all-in, since I've got the BB in two hands.

    So I lay it down.

    FLOP: :Kc: :Qc:

The animal's pocket J's was better than the other guy's pocket pair.

Anyone think this was a no-brainer? I was short-stacked, and two huge stacks had just sat at my table. The blinds were about to hit me, and I REALLY like suited A's.

    Thoughts?

Personally, with the BB coming around in 2 more hands and the fact that you only had 4 BB's left, I think I would've taken a shot here. You had an A and your hand was made slightly better by virtue of it being suited. You were about to be blinded out and I think with the A in hand I would have taken a shot right there instead of hoping for a better hand within the next 2 deals.

However, I have the benefit of hindsight. I would like to believe that I would have pushed in your case. However, as we always say when analyzing this crazy game..... it depends!

I am also not averse to pushing when I am extremely short-stacked with a mid-suited connector either. You will most likely be called by someone holding a couple of overs and if you get called by more than one person they will probably both be holding face cards and your suited connector just might hit and allow you to double/triple up.

i'd rather go out on a hand than be blinded to death. and chances are you won't get a hand better than A2s the next 3 or 4.

    himself fucker.
I disagree. Fold here. I'd rather push with AXs and no raises in front of me vrs be guarenteed a call. I'd be happy with a fold around. You would have been basically forced AI on the Big Blind though.

Right or wrong, being in your position, I would have pushed 'em AI. For all the reasons previously said. Just adding my vote here. Like you said, you were already in the money, in my opinion you had nothing to lose and everything to gain. When you're shortstacked like that you know you will have a slim chance at getting a truly decent hand before being blinded out. I believe the risk would be worth the reward. You had a decent chance against a bully and it would cost you nothing in terms of real money to call the bet.
