And man did it hurt. Really really bad raise on the river, I out-thought myself here. I bet the flop on my draw and checked when I hit the 1 hole card K high flush on the turn, thinking that'd set him up to bet basically any spade on the river. I didn't really think about what he was calling with pleflop (i.e. high cards) and on the flop, which meant he easily could have the ace of spades. I wasn't worried about him having the straight flush after his preflop call, but am a bit surprised that he rereraised on the river without it. I should've just called the bet without even thinking about raising, and saved myself nearly 4k in chips. Bad Mike. And now I'll leave off with my worst hand of the tourney. More to come tomorrow, including a dramatic comeback that is so dramatic I don't recall it in detail!

Here's my thinking, throughout the hand. Preflop raise - I'm thinking pocket pair, but he may play back at me with all my betting recently, and obviously a weak ace is a much better hand 3 handed. I call thinking my ace is clean (I'm not dominated by a higher ace) and I may be able to get a good deal off of him if he won't fold his pocket pair (if its high) to an ace on the board, especailly because he's been very aggressive. On the flop I hit my ace, and think I have him for sure. Sucking in a bit more before I raise on the turn if he leads out again. He checks the turn, which is basically what I'd expect him to do with a pocket pair now, doing a nice job of sucking me in. He raises on the turn, but now over half my chips are already into the pot and I'm still thinking he has a hand like KK-JJ and isn't willing to lay it down. And as aggressive as he was being, I still didn't think he'd raise me preflop like that with a 9. I hit my 4 outer on the river (needed an ace or a 9), very luckily, to swing the chip advantage my way. Even though this obviously doesn't happen all that often, it does go to show the vulnerablitiy of low boats, and I do recall seeing this type of thing more than you'd expect. High boats are extremely tough to beat, but if you have a low boat, with a set that's lower than the board pair, then any higher pair has 4 outs, and a person with a board set (like a 9 on this board) has even more outs (any board pair besides the one you have a set on, and pairing their other hole card, for a total of 7 outs). No way I question my play here, though. Can't fold AQ heads up with that chip stack difference. Whew, finally done. It sure is stressful being in that long of what was basically a $15k heads up match, especially when you have him on the ropes twice and get burned by the river! Comments are welcome.
