Betting with over cards.

So here I am with AQo, a few come along preflop and rags come out. I pet the bot to see what's up and with the one caller I figure he's gotta have a pair, so I fold when the turn gives me no help.

How would YOU play this.
guy sat down about 2 rounds ago, no infos but I'd say after the fact he's pretty tight.

If you're going to sell AA or KK, you've got to continue firing on the turn. You've still got an outside chance of making a winning pair if he does flat call again.

It's not worth trying to sell AA or KK anyway, a lot of players at this level won't pick up on it, in my experience.
Roncho may have been a fish on a flush draw, but he's still got a better out count than your draw. Or he is smooth calling with an overpair or trips. Hard to say, so it's definitely a check/fold situation. Out of position, save yourself the cash on the flop and don't throw out that $1.35 on a semibluff, especially if he called your pot sized preflop raise.

I've gotten myself into a lot of trouble trying this sort of play in low limit... If you have position and raised preflop I think it is worth a stab. With a call and unimproved I'll check behind or fold to a bet. Check/Fold the river if you don't hit. It's not worth trying to rep anything on most of these people.

I'd recommend that you save betting like you have AA/KK for when you do. You'll be amazed how many times you get called down. Also, I avoid semi-bluffing unless I know I am up against a decent opponent heads-up or have a draw I'll hit 50% of the time. You loose a lot of folding equity in the low limits against random opponents.

So in this scenario I'm better off to check the flop and see if there's a bet, or just throw a smaller bet out and see what happens ?

This is a fairly common scenario, having great over cards and getting a rag flop - how do you guys usually play this.

Depending on what you think of the player.

If he loose or overlay aggressive, I'd say this: it's a check on the flop. If he puts out a weak bet, re-raise. If he puts out a pot sized bet, fold. If he checks behind, you might consider betting the turn.

If he's tight/weak, I'd say this: Bet on the flop, but smaller. Maybe 1/2 pot sized bet. If he calls, proceed with caution (ie, check and fold the turn to any sizable bet). If he raises, fold.

Depends on the number of players in the hand. 1 other player, it might be worth a stab if you raised pre-flop. loose player or 2+ I'll check it. Just remember it is essentially a bluff at the pot and if you are played back at you should usually get out.
