Default 25nl: Trying to get better at folding big hands

So I'm trying to find good spots to fold big hands as I figure there's no point in just exchanging coolers. I often think they aren't coolers at all if we unpick the logic of the hand, but it's damn difficult to fold.

Is this a pretty routine fold? I don't see anything other than a few combos of 88/77/87cc in villain's range.

Villain is 31/28/19% 3bet over 100 hands but only seen a few flops. Post flop stats suggest fairly nitty, which I guess is inevitable given pre-flop lagginess.

    PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.25 BB (6 handed) - PokerStars Converter Tool from http://flopturnriver.com/

    CO ($43.69)
    Button ($33.84)
    SB ($33.99)
    BB ($32.34)
    Hero (UTG) ($25)
    MP ($25.35)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with 4, 4
Hero raises to $0.75, 1 fold, CO calls $0.75, 2 folds, BB calls $0.50

    Flop: ($2.35) 7, 7, 8 (3 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $1.25, 1 fold, BB calls $1.25

    Turn: ($4.85) 4 (2 players)
BB bets $3.20, Hero calls $3.20

    River: ($11.25) 10 (2 players)
BB bets $27.14 (All-In), Hero goes into the timebank...I'm never good here....but I has a boat and everything...

It's weird that he bets the turn so much after calling the flop. The 4 obviously doesn't help him beat us. 56s is so in his range here, certainly at the turn, so not folding here. River jam screams value though. This doesn't look like a straight now, not for someone who you say is nitty post flop. Feels like a fold but it's hard to understand why he decided to bet turn so much if he already had us beat. Tens kinda makes sense. Or some godfuckingawful 74s. T7s. idk, I think I pukefold river.

I agree with this, definitely weird line to c/c and lead turn. I feel like that kind of line is 7x often. 67s, A7s, 78s has us beat, we beat 79s. He could have 56s too, or something dumb like JTs (shoving river for who knows why), J9s?

I can definitely see folding an overpair here, and that would qualify to me as "trying to fold big hands", but 44 is NOT a fold here when he could be doing this with so many worse hands.

Maybe the higher stakes players will have some different advice but I'm pretty happy to call here. There's not a lot of hands that beat us and plenty of hands that might think they're the nuts like A7 esp, 56, J9 trying to fold you on the turn. I just couldn't give him that much credit.

At 10nl and down yeah I think 7x and 56s can take this line, thinking we have overpair and won't fold. But I think at 25nl these hands are much less likely to jam, if you're opening 44 utg then your stats must be reasonably wide so this guy should expect to see you turn up with 78s 88 77 TT often enough for him to realise that 56 and A7 are not the nuts. I guess it's possible this guy has you tighter, ie TT+ AQ+ or something like that, in which case A7 is a lot stronger. Bean, how are your stats shaping up here utg?

I like villain's line if he has it. He doesn't give me the option to pot control the turn and reverses the initiative nicely to set up a river jam.

A7 doesn't come along here imo as I'd expect him to squeeze it. I don't see villain having TT either with this line. 4 combos of 56s are the only thing I realistically beat imo, but I'd even be sceptical of those given river jam and his suspected post-flop nittiness. Pretty much every player at this stake is a nut-peddler too, so I think the call is a lot more marginal than some would think.

Difficult to know how villain views me. I'd expect my stats to be showing on his HUD as bit looser than normal given the other 4 villains were nits, but nothing outside the range of a bog-standard TAG reg.

You opened UTG, I'd expect many more calls in BB than squeezes.
