I'm not so sure I would've opened here in this situation just because of the shortstack & knowing he will be needing to make a play at something and I'm either spewing chips or need to open with the intention of him playing back at me for the rest of his puney stack. On flop he's going to most likely shove whether or not he hits it so you need to be thinking in advance prior to opening what you will be doing if and when the situation comes about. Just my opinion but am always keeping in mind that I'm opening with a hand that will play for all his chips (albeit few).

Thats a pretty gd assessment Orifice.

The SB & BB were on a level on par with me whereas the Button was a notably weaker player. Obv 98 is a fold if anyone else opened but when it was folded round to me i quite fancied opening with it as it was a pretty passive table.

So are we generally saying that the call is a "Play" or is it strong?

I missed stack sizes, maybe add in all Ax. I would not bother trying to guess what he has. I don't mind opening here assuming the guy has had this size stack for a while. you should give up if you flop nothing since you assume he's never folding. If he just lost the last pot he'll often be looking to gamble and you're behind a random hand so I would fold.

Since he only has 155 left you are getting 155/450(pot) =0.388

So if you have a straight draw or pair or anything reasonable just shove the flop and see all 5 cards.

I would normally raise 89o in this position as well, but considering the short stack, I may just fold and wait for a better spot. Besides, we aren't unsuited middle connectors everytime its folded to us. This seems like a reasonable time to vary our play.

When a player is so short stacked you don't really have to put him on a hand because pot odds are more important.

Further info: Villian lost a majority of chips 2 hands ago raising top pair on flop all in against an opps two pair. Has 415 left and he then completed his SB and proceeded to fold to a flop bet.
Having seem him fold in SB I didn't really expect a call from him, pos an all in or fold. When it was folded round to us, with the raise I was purely looking to get some HU action with SB/BB as I had a gd reads on them.

Is it rly +EV to fold if we miss even tho we expect him never to fold? agreed 98o isn't an ideal holding for this situation but still its interesting imo

You're about a 3/1 dog if neither one of you pairs or has a draw assuming he has you high carded to begin with, which seems logical. That's about the right price but you have to add in spots or so where he'll pair plus some spots where he has a draw.

you can play with the numbers if you like:
