For me I would fold that garbage. You don't have to win the hand.

The only way I MIGHT have a go is if the BB is ultra tight and will fold to aggresion. You don't list reads, so this is not part of the equation.

The blinds aren't big enough to be worth risking a steal here with garbage ... especially when you are trying to steal from a stack comparable to yours. Pushing is suicide if you get called and a standard blind stealing raise will be called by a lot of hands ... and only a couple of those are you as good as a coin flip (22, 98 maybe). Is it really worth risking 1/4 of your stack to gain 1/10 of your stack?

I would like to point out that the only reason this is even a question is becuase the short stack is tiny.

As for call range, if you were to raise me 3XBB and I am in the BB, I would probably call you with any 2 cards 8 or higher and any A and push back at you with 9s or ATs or AJ. If you were to push all in, I probably wouldn't call without having at least Js or AQ. You are in trouble too often IMO

blinds are too small to start risking your stack over.

so ur saying that if i Pushed all in here your call range is JJ+ and AQ+.

So why wouldnt I be pushing pretty much any two cards here if you were in the BB? Do you pick up those hands often enough to fend off my all in?

If that's his call range in this spot, I'm inclined to push. Still 500 chips with 150 blinds isn't really on the way out the door so I wonder if his call range looks more like 88+ AT+

I probably push if 150/300 and you have him covered.

If you push, you are risking 2500 chips to win 225. If the BB is pretty tight, they may only call with about 5% of hands. A lot of players will probably call with 10-15% of hands. If you get called, you are going to be an underdog and very likely 35% or worse to win the hand. And that's even against very loose calling requirements because you have absolute crap. I would estimate that by pushing you are going to be out of the tourney about 8-10% of the time, double up about 4% of the time, and pick up the blinds the rest of the time. To me, this isn't worth the risk because the reward is so low. Sure, if all chips are worth the same, its probably slightly +EV, but those 225 chips you are going to gain are not worth as much as the chips you already have. If your hand was even 97s or T9o, you would be much more justified because you will win so many more hands when called. But even then, why risk all your chips when a nice raise will accomplish the same thing with less risk (granted you won't succeed as often). Me, I would be happy with my position in the tourney, fold the hand, and wait for a better spot. I don't like folding the small blind when it's folded to me, but that hand is ugly. Save plays like that for when you are completely desperate or picking on a small stack. Don't look for excuses to go all-in with a healthy stack.

    For the record
if his call range was 88+ and AJ+, which is pretty damn tight
    the play is -$EV.

    Thank you!
