Obvious Call with any Two?

Was short-stacked in the Stars 36-man FPP qualifier to 500k tourney. Played like a maniac to get to final table (PVS, Stop n GO, yukky river bluffs ai... u name it) then won a couple races to reach HU.

Primary question is this : after crippling somebody do you call with any two cards getting pot odds to knock him out or wait for a better situation? I folded a deuce-5 hand getting 2-1 on my money thinking that I didn't need to double him up unnecessarily (this is why I've included a bunch of nothing hands after I have him 5/6-1 in chips).

Looking back on it (especially because I lost) I wish I had taken the shot at knocking him out with a random hand vs. my deuce-5. At the time it just seemed like I'd be able to wait a couple hands for a much better situation...

Strange thing is Ben was INSTA-CALLING as if he had pushed one of the advanced action buttons or something. Only thing I could guess was that he might have been on a flush draw and hoped that he was someone who was insta-fold (like he had insta-called) to any river bet at this point (does he fold to a sizeable bet?... weird). I guess either he interpreted my less than 1/2 pot sized bet as weakness. To make matters worse, he had just arrived at table and I had no read on him. He busted out a few hands later on a reasonable hand. Perhaps check-raise was bad idea here... Then again , maybe he wasn't folding the A-Q anyways. Weird.

Uggh... Question is, does anybody here just say fuck it and gamble with 2-5, 2-8 or any of those garbage hands I had after I crippled him? I have noticed that this play has often hurt my ability to finish the deal in my recent Sit n Go's, giving my opponents a free pass to double up when, if I were more patient, I could probably wait them out and get it in with the best of it. That being said, I WAS getting 2-1 on my cash (hand #11) and was most likely clear.

Judging from what you said, I assume this is a 1st place wins something, 2nd place wins nothing situation.

Looking at hand number 11 and using ICM, you need to win 33.9% of the time to make it a good call (I will show the math if you care to see it). If we assume that he would go in on any pocket pair and any Ax,Kx, or Qx where x is 7 or greater (magically the worst hands for you to go up against) you will win 32.9% of the time.

So, from a sheer will I win the game here vs. the risk and assuming really great starting hands for the opponent, it is a break even call.

However, over and above that, if you call and lose you still send a message that you are capable of calling All-Ins with any two cards (even if you really will not be doing that much as the stack sizes get closer). In turn, to combat this, your opponent needs to be more selective about his aggression. This helps you.

So, I would call.

Can't fault you here, but again, his limps seemed to be tricky plays.

Uggh... Question is, does anybody here just say fuck it and gamble with 2-5, 2-8 or any of those garbage hands I had after I crippled him? I have noticed that this play has often hurt my ability to finish the deal in my recent Sit n Go's, giving my opponents a free pass to double up when, if I were more patient, I could probably wait them out and get it in with the best of it. That being said, I WAS getting 2-1 on my cash (hand #11) and was most likely clear.

I might be the only one but I think you played to conservatively once it was head up. Once you get a huge chip lead you have to figure that your likely to knock him out on a situation where someone is a 3:2 dog whether your ahead or hes ahead your more likely to knock him out in a hand like

Q9 vs 86 then AK vs 10 10. So you cant wait for strength.

So that being said you crippled him down to around 6,500 with the blinds at 1,000/2,000. You should be pushing/calling a push with any hand here. Your gonna have to take a shot to get him out either way you might as well take it when its cheap. He can't afford to fold with any two. So hes pushing 95% of the time so it's baisically like a blind hand.
Worst case he doubles to 12,000. Then we get a bit more selective.

But you folded too many hands in a row and allowed him to go uncontested and build his stack from 6,500 to almost 12,000 and then took your chance there. Now if he doubles up hes at 24,000 which is bad news.

Heads up with a big lead you cant let him be the aggressor you should stop looking at your cards and force him to make a descision for all his chips and once he gets a stack that matters you pick your spots.

I think you should have pushed every SB you had until he doubled up and then the only hand you shouldn't have called his early pushes with was the 3-2.

I think the hand that bothers me is the 5 7.......me personally, I would call 46,57,68, any connector above 45 and all suited connectors down to 23s with a chip lead like that. i dont like 52off that much, but his pushing range is probably pretty high, not to mention the tilt factor from hand 13. I'll play high low for 2-1 in a situation like that.
