Please Help

Ok - I have been running very very bad for quite a while now. And I am beginning to think that maybe it is not just bad luck. So I am going to post my hand histories.

Please give them a look and leave some comments.

I feel like I played this tourney fine (I had a great stack after the rebuy hour) but then I fell apart. I feel like I just took one bad beat (hand 15) and then couldn't win any races (hands 19-21). But maybe I am missing something.

I'm new to the forum so probably not in the best position to give advice but I'll still try.

Firstly, during the rebuy hour the play is solid so certainly can't see anything wrong there.

Hand 15 - was the right play and simply unlucky.

Hand 19 - is well played but doesn't go your way. Short stack pushes pre-flop so it looks like an obvious call. With the caller too I think the raise was needed to make sure he was getting out of the way. Unlucky again with the board cards.

Hand 20 - I think you're too early position to be stealing the blinds there. You are short stacked but it's not worth the steal in my opinion. The players behind you have comfortable stacks and even the all-in raise you make isn't enough to scare them off (particularly in the blinds), even if they hold fairly marginal hands (kq, kj etc). I'd fold pre-flop and wait for a better opportunity.

Hand 21 - You have no option at this point so nothing wrong.


Generally I think you were unlucky with the coinflip hands, and apart from my view of hand 20, very solid play. Nothing really to change. A nice run of luck with the coinflips there and you're coasting on a huge stack.

Chard, I agree with topsoyale on his points. However, it might just be me because I'm a tighty caller, but I think that it's close on the AQ and TT calls. You lost your stack primarily on these two hands. I don't know if I could call almost half my stack. I know that you have to gambool at times to win these but that would be a lot for me to call with my two favorite hands. Oh and hand 17 might be too early in position to raise A8. Too many people to go through there.

All in all though, you would have been a monster if those two hands went the other way. Those two situations I have trouble with in tourneys so it would be interesting to here how others play it.

I didn't see any big issues - I hate raising A litte in EP, but I don't think that's causing your downswing. Also I assume you had a read on the hand you re raised with AQ against another big stack in EP.

The AQ call I made was read based - when the button pushed, I simply did not put him on AK. I really thought I had a good chance to be dominating there (and I was).

The AQ reraise was against the same tool who pushed and caught with his 5J. His minraise meant nuttin, and with a stack he was willing to laydown preflop.

The 57s hand late - I would rather push with 57s than with a hand like Ax. I had 3 hands until the blinds came to me - and since the blinds were 1/6 of my stack I needed to make a move. An EP push there will often get more respect than a late push. So I am ok with that one.

also I meant to say I have started playing the smaller rebuys on Paradise and wow, do those blinds move quick at the 12 minute levels. There is value there because the play is awful but the swings are going to be killer. I had an awesome stack last night in the 10RB, AA ran into set, and suddenly I had like 5x BB. Stick with it.

Makes more sense. In retrospect, I think that you played fine. It'll turn.

I just had one comment.

In Hand 13 with KK, should you do a raise up to about 3000 or 2500? Going all in will not win you any more money and you want all villain chips ...

the whole tourney seemed fine apart from hands 19,20 these were your downfall,

hand 19, personally i wouldnt call pocket 10's to someone who's put there whole stack in - simply because of your stack Vs blind size, if you lost the hand you are now in the position of having to push with less than decent hands, ( you pretty much put your tournament life at risk with this hand would of been nice if it had of paid - but i dont think you thought of the position you would be in if it didnt ! ) your stack was still ok at this point!

also it seemed as tho you lost a lot of hands in a row even tho you played them correctly, when this happens to me i like to sit out for a minute or 2 to avoid giving the impression that im on tilt,

also if you've been running bad for a while now, do you normally gamble this much of you stack pre-flop at some points your play seems a little over aggressive!

the only reason why i say this is because i live by that saying good players do most of their gambling on the flop, you seem to be a very good player and able to read your opponents well use the flop to your advantage, trying to out play your opponents here instead of preflop always has more chance of success imo.

also i would agree with jimmy on hand 13, considering your the big dog at the table,

pushing all in here was kind of like slapping them in the face with a sledge hammer, with jimmy's raise they may have pushed all in anyway, but seeing 20k go into the pot tends to scare some people - lol

I didn't want to reply on specific hands because everyone did before me, but I just wanted to say that you bleed a lot of chips by completing with some trash from the SB. Like with the 97 you complete and hit 2nd pair and fold, I mean, you really have to hit the flop hard to continue, and I don't think it's worth the 1/2 blind every time to hope for a good flop.

The 75s push with 6bbs was a little poor, I dunno if it was read-dependent because of who was in the blinds, but I would at least wait for an ace or broadway cards because you don't have too much fold equity and any time you're called, you'll be behind unless someone calls with 22.

UTG limps, I raise a standard amount (3xBB + 1BB for his limp). He then minraises me. To me this screams JJ+,AK. If he has AA there, I am screwed. But if he has anything else, I think I get all his chips in preflop. Instead, his minraise was actually probably his thought that he was ahead in the hand and he wanted to take control of the betting. So yes, with position a call there is probably fine and I can then dump my hand if an A shows. But my line is also fine, as I think I get a call from a lot of the hands that minraise a raise like this.

Now my M is just over 3. It is folded to me in EP/MP. As long as my hand is not complete garbage I push here. I have enough of a stack (over 6xBB) that I will only get called by a decent hand, and if I do get called, I have a decent chance of sucking out with a nice little sooted almost connected cards (e.g. in this case I was actually only a 40/60 dog).

I have a very busy week coming up, and I am really getting frustrated with never winning flips lately - so I am gonna take this week off and when I get back I will just be playing the $30 rebuy for fun.

the 79, 75 and TT hands are standard, no worries.
