    Default Some tourney questions

I hope it's ok to post some tournament beginner questions here. I recently started tournament play and 'm a bit confused still about the multiple ways to try and get a stack going. Some examples:

    1. A 360 on stars, early on, I am UTG with TT, I raise 3bb. When the action comes back to me, 3 guys have shoved allin. Now my reasoning is, if one of em has a bigger pp, I'm shafted, but otherwise there will probably be some overcards (hopefully sharing some of their outs), maybe a smaller pp that wants to come along (it happens) or some guy shoving a random hand. So on average I should be getting a decent shot (~30% is enough) to more than tripple up. So I might aswell gamble it a bit, then either I have a nice stack to continue and go for ITM, or I'm out and I can focus on other tournaments. So I call. Good reasoning or not?

    2. I'm in MP, 2 limpers in front of me, I have A9o. Normally I would fold this without much thought, but is there something to be said for limping along with the pack and hoping to hit a flop? How about if I have 76s? (always the risk of someone raising it up in the back)

    3. I'm on the button with KJo. There's 4 limpers in front of me. My instinct is to raise this up to 5-6bb, but maybe this is a mistake.. just limp along?

    4. I have AJo in the CO, one guy in EP has raised 4bb and a caller. My action? If I call, I probably have to let go if I don't hit the flop though.

    4. Postflop minraising. Coming from ring, it is amazing to see all the minraising that goes on in tournaments. I'm getting the impression that this is never done with a draw or semi strong hand though.. can we say minraise=TP or better?

    My quick thoughts....
    1. With 3 allins, it seems like you'll often be against a higher pp. Although they may have some of each other's outs, you likely face more than your usual two overcards.

    2. I rather limp with 67s here than A9o to stay out of positions where I could be dominated. The problem from calling with hands like A9o isn't pf, but the hard decisions you'll often face after the flop.

    3. I'd prefer to take a cheap flop in position with this hand unless I really think I have a good chance of taking the pot right here with a raise.

    4. Assuming 9/10 player game and the considering the player, I'd play AJ carefully against an EP raiser (and caller), as you could often be against AK or AQ

    5. A lot of people due minraise their only TP or better hands, but others minraise draws to build the pot.

That's a lot of limping and random all-ins. What's the buy-in? If it's the 10 cent 360 player tournament then don't fold TT preflop ever, limp behind a lot of hands (but not A9o) and fold when someone raises unless you have a monster. If it's the $5 then most of the above still applies except fold TT.

Also, do you have PokerStove? I didn't really read your reasoning for thinking you have 30% equity but why not use the program?

1.. fold, even against 3 random hands TT dont do that well
    and this aint 3 random
2..A9o eazy fold, 67s eazy limp
3..my instinct is to fold but limp behind is probaly correct,,KJs limp behind
    4..im folding this alot
5..min raises can mean alot of different things but ive found
weak players this = TP or better 4 sure

I would never fold TT in this tournie in the situation you describe. I would expect to be a head of most or all of the hands.

You seem to be concentrating two much on your cards, the tournie goes so quick that position and situations become important.

Your preflop play has to set up the post flop, If you raise 5bb with KJo and get called by a couple of people can you put out a substantial bet without becoming pot tied? or do you plan to just fold if you miss?

    Default Re: Some tourney questions

    1. early on w/TT limp the flat call the raise that way you still get implied odds of 10 to 1. Here you raises 3x bb and get two all ins fold save your chips for a bettere spot. Fold fold fold.
    2. Fold and fold A9 is a hand you really don't know whre your at if you hit the ace on the flop or the 9 w/overs there. I even fold the suited connectors here also i'd play them late though. If I play the suited connector here I raise to try to get the button or even take the blinds.
    3. KJo this is a trouble hand if your stacks the right size(11 to 15bb's) shove. If you really deep call. Other wise fold w/4 limpers your surely behind to hands likw KQ,AJ,88-22 etc. Thats 50/50 i dont mind calling or folding.
    4. AJo fold I respect a raise from EP. Iwouldn't raise w/AJo from EP so no way would I call w/it.
    you got 2 #4's
    5. I really dont know what to make of the min bet. Some do it on a draw some will fold to a raise others play a set like that. I ty to get money in w/a set. I bet more than min. but people do it. Take notes on what they had is all.

I completely agree with above here.
With the A-J in CO, facing an EP rs.,... what kind of flop would you be happy to see? and what are the odds for that? An Ace comes on the flop, good chance you're spewing more chips. Why bother?
