Default world tavern poker tourney advice

hey, well yesterday i played in a world tavern poker tourney...i was pretty excited as its my first real live tourney and its free because i live in NC and it would be illegal to have a buy-in. but when the tourney started i was very discouraged at the structure of the event. all the players start off with 5000 in chips. with the blinds starting out at 100-200 and pretty much double every 15 minutes. at the moment i had no idea now to play this tourney. i just played like i would normally play the start. i played pretty tight, as i didnt catch any playable cards either way. but then i found myself pretty much having to decide whether i want to go all-in or not because the blinds were so large compared to my stack. is there any good advice to do well in this tourney? im thinking that i may have to try to play loose aggressive at the beginning to try and build a chip stack early so i dont get desperate 1 hour later, any advice?

honestly in bar events like this where its a freeroll its basically just a luck fest. obviously you arent going to be moving in with 7-2 or anything but players will play just about everything and call if they hit any pair alot. i would take time improving my game elsewhere. just go there and have fun. dont think of it as real poker
