    Default Wrongheaded push?

Near the 1-hour break on a 45-player, $10 SNG at stars

Backstory: last round, this guy limped the SB after everyone folded, and I raised him up and he folded. So I try the same here...
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t200 (6 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

    CO (t1645)

Preflop: Hero is BB with 4, A.
4 folds, SB completes, Hero raises to t800, SB calls t600.

I only bet 900-1000 on the flop.

Preflop is OK, but I like raising less, say 550 - 600, because it keeps cont. bets smaller.

overbet more likely to get called by medium pair? i.e. fake bluff?

No, overbets are more likely to be called by hands that trash your TPNK.

I like the overbet. I too think it looks more like a steal attempt than someone who has an A. Of course, if villian is as tight as you lead us to believe he is folding here regardless of what you bet, but will only call when he has you beat (Ax with a higher kicker for example).

hm... I wasn't thinking of the previously play as demonstrating villain's tightness. Rather, I was hoping heshe was pissed off and wanting to take me down a notch by catching me bluffing at this without an A.

nogenius, I think you're wrong. Say you hold 88, and this really aggressive player raises your SB from the BB (again). You call. Flop is A and rags. He puts you all in. What do you think?

Below is the only reason I don't like the overbet here.

Put yourself in villian's seat. You are getting close to the money of a 45 man tourney and after the pre-flop betting are getting closer to short stack and your M has now dropped to less than 10. Are you calling this bet with anything other than a 10 or A in your hand? Especially when the aggressive player (LeFou in this case) has put in a bet size that is damn near EXACTLY enough to push you all-in.

With that said, if I am LeFou I am still making this play. My chip stack can take the hit on the off chance that he does have TP with a better kicker, calls with a flush draw and hits it, etc., and I think you are ahead here way more often than you are behind.
