Top 2 on the flop...

I put villain on AA/KK immediately pre-flop but my hand was pretty to look at...

if you're going to bet into him like that, you best be ready to get it all in. and, i see no reason to be scared here. i'm pushing and hoping for a call.

I pushed, he called, ace came on the turn to give him his set.

Results aside, did I have any business calling this pre-flop?

not unless you had some particular reason to. i'm experimenting with calling with hands like this every once in a while when i think the raiser is really bad post-flop, i haven't decided if i like it yet.

Not really. If you flopped a draw, you would have had horrible odds to see it through, since villain is gonna be betting AA hard. Generally the only drawing hands I call AA reraises with are underpairs.

Also its relevant to know that you didn't have as much equity on the flop as you might have thought. He has about a 30 percent chance to draw out on you with AA (5 outs turn, 8 outs river). Which is another reason why its bad to call this preflop.

are you suggesting that barely 10:1 implied odds are enough for you to try to suck out on AA with any two?

Yea push it. I just had a similar hand with a slightly bigger flop pot. I raised PF with QQ to $1. Tight-reraiser comes over the top of me to $3. I know he has AA/KK. Flop comes Q high with 2 clubs. I bet just over half pot expecting him to push me off my 'draw'. He pushes :D.

Thats way better than 10:1. With very big stacks it is +EV to call with any 2 if you definatly know what villain holds. I dont think I would have called there but it probably works out +EV if your 100% confident in your read.

Yeah, any board pair other than mine plus his aces, whereas I have only 4 outs to improve on this particular hand...although you don't know that pre-flop, do ya? :wink:

folding pre flop in early position to a raise would of got you out of this situation, after that you played it fine.

I call the UTG raise, and I might fold to the button reraise, but to be honest I would be inclined to call. Anyways, its an easy push on the flop, almost any villain will call a push here with AA/KK and you dont want a turn that can kill your action (a Q or a club).

Didn't you though? You said you put him on AA/KK. The easiest way for JQ to suckout on AA is to flop two pair.
