Default Help Sup3r build a....SUPER COMPUTER

ok I lied...its more like a computer with a budget

I have no problem doing the labor myself and putting it together. Need your guys (cough more like jack sawyercough) help on which parts should I get.

I checked out the site Hardware Revolution and got many of my part ideas from there.

I prefer shopping at newegg for pc parts unless its quite a bit more cheaper to buy it from another site.

So okay here are the items I want to get so far:

Cpu + mobo: Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, LED LCD TV, Digital Cameras and more!

I am planning on overclocking so getting the k version. Think this is an okay price for both mobo and cpu. Plan on ebaying the game as soon as i get it for a little $ back. $395

    Ram:Newegg.com - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL

    Sale for $70.

Video Card: This I am not sure about. I'm pretty sure I am never going to game on my PC so I don't need a good one. Something that has two DVI ports that I can dual screen on and watch downloaded hd movies without any problems should be fine. I am thinking that I might sometimes want to run a HDMI line from PC to my TV and watch stuffs on that but not sure what to look for if I want to do that.

Storage: Currently I have an intel x25m 80gb ssd. I am thinking if I should purchase another one and run them as a raid 0 or not. Also have a 640gb WD hd as a secondary.

    Optical Drive:Newegg.com - ASUS Black 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 24X DVD Burner - Bulk - CD / DVD Burners

    Basic.

PSU: Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V v2.2 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply

Just to be on the safe side while overclocking, $110

    Cooling:

    Newegg.com - CORSAIR CAFA70 120mm Dual-Fan CPU Cooler

    $46

    Newegg.com - ARCTIC COOLING AF12PWM 120mm Case Fan

    $10

    Indigo Xtreme™ Engineered Thermal Interface (ETI) Kit for Core i5, LGA 1156 - 2 Pack - FrozenCPU.com

    $20

Mainly to make sure PC/CPU doesnt overheat from overclocking.

    Case:

Newegg.com - NZXT WHISPER WHI - 001BK Black Aluminum / Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

    or

Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER HAF 922 RC-922M-KKN1-GP Black Steel + Plastic and Mesh Bezel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Case I am really not sure about. I like the look and design of the first link but not sure if it will keep pc cool enough. I hate cases that look like a "uber gaming tower" or something like link 2. Looking for a quite case that can keep an overclocked cpu cool.

That's all I can think of right now. Let me know what you guys think and recommend.

Sounds like my new compy will be, i52500k and a z68 etc.

Ive had a case recommended to me: Coolermaster RC-690. It's not overpriced and good cooling. So i have that and a Corsair TX650 which i've had recommended as a very good PSU.

Also recommended was Coolermaster 212+ sink/fan.

Guy recommending me this stuff works at a PC repair shop and owns half of it himself.

If you want a hip case check out fractal-design, they are minimalist cases.

So yeah check out those cases see what you think. Everything youve listed looks good to me though!

edit: and please please invest in a decent keyboard and mouse! mechnical keyboards are too fucking expensive and decnetly priced keys are pretty bad so i cant help you there (i have a MS sidewinder x4 or something which is ok). Mousewise i intend to get a logitech g9x but it might be a bit of a gamer purchase.

What's your budget and requirements Super? You want air-cooling, yes?

Case is basically whatever you want and your budget allows, because it's the single thing you will stare at all day and have to tolerate for the life of your PC, so IMO don't skimp on it. I am biased towards Silverstone, like the RV03 or the FT02B. The TT Level 10 GT is awesome as well.

If you are really anal about power consumption efficiency, get a Corsair 750AX PSU. The AX line is more efficient than the TXv2 line.

edit: just noticed you had the original TX in there. Here is a link for the TXv2 instead, which is superior.

As mbiz pointed out, the Hyper 212+ is pretty much the nuts when it comes to air-cooling. Better than that is the ez liquid H50, but it comes at a price.

I personally use an Ergonomic Keyboard, Gaming Mouse, Wrist Gel and Gaming Mouse pad in the ergonomics department. My wrists have thanked me.

This Radeon 6790 will have all the outputs you need and then some, and will happily churn some light 3D as well. You have to keep in mind that the P8Z68-V has some onboard video options as well, at least a DVI, VGA and HDMI ports as far as I can tell. The 3D acceleration is not necessarily spectacular compared to a good discrete card, so you have to be mindful of your needs.

Oh, and get the dvd burner its own separate case. It eats up valuable space in your case you could use for anything else, such as front panel LCDs or hard drive caddys, and it's basically going the way of the dodo anyway. Plus, you can easily turn it off when not in use and it will decrease overall noise output from your rig.
