I've screwed this one up too and maybe one day I'll even play it right. If simmy13 isn't in the big blind and/or has a taller stack, this is a call on the river after being raised. Either he really liked that 7 or you've both been slow playing and the fireworks just got started. Hmm... that puts him on 2 pair or better QT, Q7, Q4, T7, T4, 74, but more likely AA, QQ, TT, 77, KJ and you got the worst of it.

I put him on me stealing though, as I'd just changed gears and had been betting at most things. I am glad he was only on a $13 stack though.

Nothing you could have done i think bones, i've said it before i'll say it again sometimes you just have to pay people off, for instance i was in a tourney last night with AK flop comes KJJ, there was a small betting round Turn comes another J, well now i have a FH, i never worry about 4x well three of us go all in, i see myself splitting the pot at worst and someone flips the other J for 4Js, i just typed "LOL, gg"

Your play on this hand in the long run will prove to be +EV but i would have tried to take the pot down when there were 2 Hs on the board you could have given someone with HH a free flush to take your money with or someone could hit trips with a high pair on the turn/river that's why i like to play my sets fast unless i have a high pair.

Hopes this makes sense, i tend to ramble . . .

Still, there were a lot of hands that had his set beat and his opponent was representing either an outdraw or slow play. If you can reliably, correctly lay this down, you seriously should move up in limits. But slowing down a pretty strong hand in this case might be the best option.

I agree with what you say to a certain extent but you can't always play the nuts and if just 2/3 of the time you have the better hand you have to play it and pay off the other 1/3 when you don't. If I play small pairs and they make a set, I can't see the point in playing them at all if I'm not going to play them like they are the best hand.

Obviously situations require diff play, if there was a small raise pre-flop and a few players in i'm playing them fast unless someone plays fast before me (i'll probably just call, dependant on any player reads).

The only time i'll slow play trips is if i get to see the flop cheap and there are only 1 or 2 players in. I'm hoping they make a pair to get some value bets in (if theres 2 suited cards, i'm going to make them pay to draw to a flush).

Hope this clears up my position on small pockets better, as for moving up a level bankroll is probably more important than skill to a certain extent. That is, if you are a losing player at the $25 tables BR has no effect on whether you move up or not.
