I havent followed very closely, but I think the odds on favorite would have to be John Paul III.

I am seriously putting $100 on the black guy.
Do they have olives in Africa? Olive skin maybe. The Black olives are my favorite.

I find this thread to be in pretty poor taste. Maybe I'm the only Catholic here, but either way...

Sorry if I've offended anybody, but that's where I'm at.

In no way was this meant to be offensive... Just a lighthearted look at a sad occurance.

I appologize if I have offended anyone with my speculation the the next pope will be black.

Not a bad bet to put a couple of quid on Lustiger, he's got decent odds.

I salute you on your utter lack of taste... he's African, not African-American.

Well in keeping with the tradition started recently by American Priests they did ask 1 prominent American if he would like to be pope but sadly Michael Jackson has some proir commitment for the next few weeks so he declined.

    Too easy.

And they'd never pick an American - we'll sooner have a female african pope.

I bet on the African. I am not betting on a female though. Not a good choice for "heavenly father"

The pope is referred to as the "Holy Father".

    "Heavenly Father" would be God.

There will never be an American Pope, in our lifetime anyway, for the same reason there will never be another Catholic President.

The last Catholic president was assassinated. Is that the reason we won't have an American pope?

Actually it was the only Catholic President.

There will never be another Cathloic Presiden for several reasons. One is there is an anti-Catholic sentiment in the US.Also A Catholic who wanted to stay true to the teachings of the Church and ran for President would have to run as 3rd party canidate. Cathloics are viewed as to liberal for Republicans (welfare, capital punishment) and too conservative for Democrats (abortion, gay marriage), and would not get nomiated by either party.

    If it's a president hated by both parties... don't you'd think he'd win in a land-slide?

It is atuclly kind of ironic that Bush, a Protestant, actually has more beliefs that the Catholic Church teaches, than Kerry, a "practicing Catholic"
