Default Persuade me to move to $100NL

This is a selfish thread, inspired in part by Cocco_Bill, I think it was, wondering out loud (while, I'm sure, shaking his head and tutting sadly) why I am playing £25NL with a roll of over $4,000.

Here are the reasons why I play £25NL:

    1. I am good at it, I know the site intimately, there are lots of fish, I know what to expect, I have lots of good PT stats, and I am a proven winner there.

    2. It's an environment where I can learn 6max without risking too much of my roll

    3. I don't like $50NL at all, partly because whenever I've played it it's been ultra-rocky, it's full of people who have graduated from $25NL, and in actual money terms it's only about 5% more than £25NL thanks to the exchange rate (my BB/100 at $50 is about 1)

    4. I am terrified of losing sums in three figures in a single session

    5. I will win less (in terms of hands, BB/100 etc), whereas I like winning

    6. I am gradually opening up my game, playing and raising more hands, but I am sure I would clam right up back to 15/7 or whatever at a higher level

    7. I am really enjoying 6max right now, but $100NL 6max scares the living shit out of me

So, persuade me why all this is dumb...

    2) You'll make 3x more money
    3) Whats the point in life if you never make progress?

Play full ring until you're comfortable at the stakes.

northerner says to southerner: grow some balls

    That help london boy?

Honestly, as has been said, you are going to lose 50 quid if you get sucked out on and what not but youll only make the same errors you are making now that are often difficult to get away from anyway, but when you pwn youll be making twice as much etc.

ANyway, if your on pr and crypto still, the 100nl games there are good imo.

if you never challenge yourself you will never really improve. I have always been a little afraid of moving up but if you take it slowly, perhaps even play with 1/2 or something it will go just fine. About a year ago I was playing nl100 and now nl1k and nl2k. And always afraid of the next stakes. Go for it!

Why did ya start poker in the first place?? Your not making withdrawls, so it's not about the money. What's the motivation? So your beating 25NL micro stakes, good, but what's the real sense in playing against a bunch of donks unless a) your making tons of cash.($4000, meh) b) your trying to get better for the next level. (not anymore at these stakes) c) Your balls were removed. (lol). Biondino, $4000 is nothing to laugh at, your killing me in terms of roll.If I'd stay off the $25nl for a little while I'd have a roll by now myself. Maybe I need the discipline guys like you and Renton have showed before moving up. You guys move up kicking and screaming. I jump with 10 buy-ins cause I know I can kill the next level but without the roll it's one night of bad cards and suckouts and it's half my roll. Back to you. Again I ask "Why do ya play poker"? Is it to stack donks at $25NL, is there more to the game than that in your mind. Where's your motivation?

Play like a total nit at 100NL until you have conquered your fear and can see they suck just as bad as at the previous limits..

$100NL is full of bad players, just not as many, give it a shot.

    Love me for a season
$100NL on cryptowhatever has more players who try to be good and make stupid moves in predictable circumstances. Mixed with the usual suspect nits and a scattering of total donks it's an easy place to win money.

I think the correct answer is that noone besides yourself should say when it's the correct time to move up.

That's a wise answer I think. It says something about my personality that I feel the need to have other people persuade me!

The thing is - this week, I've run good, made 6 buyins in under a thousand hands and feel totally in control of my game. That's a great feeling, and I think the main reason I'm not sure about moving up is because I'd hate to play at a stakes where I couldn't win. I know that the only way I can find my ceiling is to play thousands of hands at those limits; but but but, I dunno, I'm sure you know what I mean.

/ whiny self-indulgent crap (for now, anyway)

Pick a number, 5 buy-ins, 8 maybe and write em off. go for it and no fear you lose your number you picked playing your game move back until you feel like trying again.

worst case senario. You pick 5 buy-ins. $500 and lose it. move down and make it back.

Best case senario. You move up, win and make $$$$$$$$.

My money is on a 2 buy in downswing, a eureka moment, and one large upswing.

Imagine making $600 in 1000 hands.

Only do a half buy in at 100NL til you get comfortable.

i think this is the best idea by far. take $500 and try it out. you can lose no more than this, and have potential to prove to yourself you can play and end up tripling that in a week.

    its worth a shot.

I know how you feel. I just moved to 400nl, where the standard preflop raise is often the amount of a 25nl buyin. It freaks me out. Every time I steal the blinds, its like winning a meal at Denny's. Six bucks every time.

But I moved up for the plain and simple reason that I'd like to make 12-20k in a month. That would be really sweet.

I had my first really bad session at it yesterday, dropping about four buyins. I have never lost that much money in one day before and it made me feel like shit. However, I was pretty proud of myself because I wasn't on tilt at any point during the session. I flopped the absolute nut straight with middle suited connectors three times in that session and got out drawn by a better straight on the turn each time, and lost my stack each time.

But its ok because I got 12k behind me, backing me up. For you its similar except you have 16k backing you up (in terms of 100nl buyins).

Move up. Stop playing at seedy ghetto european sites where all the players are regulars. Make 50-100 dollars an hour instead of 10-15. Do it.

Is Full Tilt Poker a good site to play 100NL at? I'm always going through the SAME thing biondino WAS going through right now..

I'm comfortable 4 tabling 50NL but I can't even play at 100NL.. god knows.. just the thought of it..

I played like 50 hands tonight.. a guy raises to $4, I make it $12 and he calls, raggy flop, I bet $14 into $27 pot and he pushes over my bet.. and I obviously have to fold, there goes like $26, a buyin at 25NL or half a buyin at 50NL...

Someone convince me to do this, and yes, I've read this thread.. blah

Scared money doesn't play good poker. If you can't lose your stack to a 2-outer and laugh at the idiot that sucked out on you, you're not ready to play at the stakes.

My advice is to open ONE full-ring table at the higher stakes to get used to it. Don't even think about 6-max until the bet sizes don't bother you anymore.

Full Tilt is awesome for 100nl.

I like Warpe's idea. It is one that I have subscribed to. If you can keep the tables straight (not hard with a little practice), I would do it. As I have moved up, I started with one table at the next level, and 3 or 4 at my current game. Then I would add another table while taking away a table at the main game. Soon your experimental game becomes your main game and you barely realize it. Sometimes the higher game kicks your ass and it doesn't feel so good, but at least you can control the chaos then by closing that table, or by having the peace of mind that you can kill your main game, so you will make it up in no time.

Mostly what you will find is that the play isn't really much different. As I have played a table or two of $200, I find it to be very similar to $100. A little more aggressive, but still plenty of idiots.
