I went all in, should I have?

Found this site 2 weeks ago and I'm a first time poster. I had a hand situation today that I wanted to get some feedback on. The hand is below (as a side note, I had seen Player 3 show AQ and AK only so far, however, he had been in 70% of the flops at that point):

My question is, should I have gone all in after he reraised? When he called my preflop raise, i had him put on an AK or AQ. I didn't think KK or AA because he didn't reraise. After the flop, the only hand I thought he could have which could beat mine was QQ, and I was willing to take the shot that I had the best hand. Was that too risky a play, even now w/ the knowledge that he had called a $2.50 raise with a .... Q9o?!

As a side note, I really enjoy this website. I have to say, I had always shied away from NL before I found this site; however, my frustration w/ limit and SitnGo tourneys made me rethink my decision. I know you must be busy w/ work and other things Tyson, but I hope you continue to update the site when you get the opportunity. I really enjoy the hand examples on the side of the main page in particular; with the PartyPoker replayer, they're a great learning tool, as are the essays. Thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds like a re-raise or fold situation. Marginal value either way, really have to think about what that player has been doing up to this point.

He's got you beat on the flop with AA, KK, QQ, TT or any 8. So it comes down to if you think he has one of those hands. If you don't think he's got it go all-in to kill his draw, otherwise fold. Calling doesn't seem like an option since it would commit enough of your stack that folding is a tough play after this point.

Sounds like you had him read close enough to right. However, you were only around a 60-70% favorite after the flop.

This is also why I'm not a big fan of raising JJ out of position. It just doesn't have the domination power of QQ KK and AA. From early position I'll often limp in with it looking for a set.

I'm glad you like the site, hope it's helping your game. I absolutely plan to continue contributing more content to the site, I've slowed down recently, but it is still one of my top priorities.

Anyway, regarding your play on this hand, I liked it.

I liked the preflop raise in late position, narrowing down the number of opponents. Early position opponent comes out betting $.50, which is very weak, I liked your re-raise on the flop. It was not too much, still less than pot, but putting a difficult play on your opponent.

I would have put him on two overs, or maybe top pair strong kicker. He was posturing as if he had an 8 with the re-raise, which I would not have believed, and you didn't fall for it either.

After the re-raise on your post-flop bet, I think you made a great play on going all-in, I think I would have played it exactly the same way. You're giving your opponent another tough decision to call a decent sized bet on an inferior hand.

I'm glad it held up and you doubled up. I think it was very well-played.
