How was that Assassination of Jesse James... movie of last year? Anyone see it?

is 3:10 to yuma out on video yet? i really wanted to see it in theaters just never got around to it. if you like westerns i got a whole bunch you should watch if you havent:
- The Wild Bunch
- The Unforgiven
- The Long Riders
- The Outlaw Josey Wales
- Pale Rider
- The Magnificent Seven

The Unforgiven is by far my favorite western. good 'ole clint.

Yeah. 3:10 just came out. I picked it up at Costco yesterday.

I've got Unforgiven, of course. Good as that is, I like the faster pace of 3:10 to Yuma... it's nice for a change. Seems Westerns only get made these days when they cop a self-important attitude. But it ain't no thin action flick like Tombstone, either (though, that one is good for what it is)... it's nicely layered.

3:10 to yuma started off so great but the ending was just a miserable fucking failure.

The ending did become much more fantastical than the more realistic feel of the film leading up to that, but it wasn't bad enough that it ruined the movie for me.

i dont see a lot of movies in theaters, but no country was definitely my one the best movies to come out in several years, imo. what i thought was really cool about it other then writing/cinematography and such, was the fact that there was no music the whole movie. it adds a really eerie touch.

for being a fairly simple storyline, no country was a great movie. i would definitly recomment open range also. it sounds like i need to pick up 3:10 to yuma

Love for Westerns is understandable since they just rock, but some listed in this thread as being great are actually mediocre (Wild Bunch, Open Range, and a few others). Which, like I said, is understandable since Westerns are unique and desireable for non-morons.

Only other good one I can think of off top of head not mentioned here is High Plains Drifter.

Spagettis are also garbage. All except Fistful of Dollars.

Check out Samurais like Yojimbo and Sanjuro. Fistful of Dollars is actually a remake/adaptation of Yojimbo. Westerns 'stole' a tonnnnn from Japanese Samurais from the mid 20th century.

Speaking of Samurais, Sword of Doom is awesome, Miyamoto Musashi Trilogy is beyond awesome, and Seppuku (Harakiri) is one of the best movies ever made. Toshiro Mifune and Tatsuya Nakadai were fucking awesome actors. Sword of Doom and the last two of the Miyamoto tril have pretty much the best fight scenes I've seen (also Evil and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xe0dFOmZ_u4). One of the movie industry's biggest blunders was not making the Sword of Doom sequel.

Also, watch Matewan. It's an American film that most have never heard of, yet is really good. It's got a Western feel to it probably because it takes place in time after The West was no longer Wild Wild. Plus it's got Chris Cooper and he's just the man.

thats funny... I never noticed the no music thing. It definitely did give it an interesting touch though now that I look back on it.

I'm really looking forward to No Country. I can't see it in the theater since I need to watch most shit with subtitles. Coen Brothers are phenomenal, and the no music thing has me going extra since I'm really thrilled to see if they can beat Saving Private Ryan in that arena. SPR did have a theme song in like the beginning, but that's it. It would have been a bit less of a movie if it had music since the sound effects were out of this world.

3:10 to Yuma is like crack it is instantly gratifying but after its affect wears off meh

The Assassination of Jesse James is like your grandpa telling an old story, it meanders gets lost but it eventually ends and you can feel satisfied.

Compared to classic Samurais, Zatoichi is sewage. At least the half hour of the one I watched, which I believe is the highest rated Zatoichi.
