Default Here I try to play poker. AJs bvb.

Villain is a 30/25 with a 57 ATS and 1 AF and 70% cbet. History, Ive 3bet him light a couple of times preflop in this spot fairly early, and then quietened down a little, but I picked up AK and AQ within the last few orbits and 3bet both. He folded both.

    My thinkings and questions:

Firstly, I would usually just 3bet this preflop. But Im trying to learn how to play pots where I call in the blinds OOP and dont just fit or fold when my hand is way ahead of his range.

On the flop I think he could easily have any 2 overcards, as well as things like 34s-89s, (and probably their offsuit counterparts) and 22-AA. 69s, 79s etc. and other random gutshots are also likely. Although history and the board may make him think Im likely to play back, I still think I make him fold his totally missed air including AK/AQ, and probably like 22 maybe 34 or some of the really crappy pairs. Thats a lot of hands. However, I still think his flop calling range is relatively weak, and there are a tonne of overcards that can come plus we have 2 overcards, a backdoor flush draw and a backdoor straight draw so our equity isnt terrible.

So question 1: Is the raise flop raise ok given im not often giving up when called?

The offsuit Q on the turn is like the best card that misses me, but I think my sizing is a bit small. $6.50 here? I was trying to leave a near pot bet for the river and I think I probably sacrificed too much FE here. Still, he *should* fold his lower pairs and gutshots, and may find it difficult to call with something like 89.

    So question 2: Good barrel?

Id have prefered an A, K or J on the river, but the 2 is unlikely to have improved his range which was already pretty weak. Almost none of the straight draws picked up a pair.

So question 3: Do I shove and hope to fold A8, 99-JJ, draws and bleurgh? Or shut my eyes, check and hope A high is good?

Influencing factors: 1) If he has a missed draw worse than A high I dont think he will bluff me very often at all.
    2) I dont think hed call the flop raise with KQ ever really.

    The hand:

    PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.25 BB (6 handed) - Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

    SB ($115.55)
    Hero (BB) ($27.05)

Preflop: Hero is BB with J, A
3 folds, Button bets $0.75, 1 fold, Hero calls $0.50

    Flop: ($1.60) 5, 8, 3 (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $1, Hero raises to $3.50, Button calls $2.50

    Turn: ($8.60) Q (2 players)
Hero bets $5, Button calls $5

After your turn sizing, I think its possible he gets to the river with a pretty wide range. If I played the hand this way I'd probably jam river.

Though I'd mostly just c/c the flop. I think we have the best hand a lot, we have decent backdoor equity that we can c/c and he might bluff the cards that hit us.

Yeah I'd rather c/c flop. As played I'd jam river and pray, especially after turn sizing.

    do not jam the river!

Wow thats pretty emphatic. How come? What cards (if any) would you be more willing to jam?

Id guess the turn bet is pretty bad if we dont plan to jam a lot of rivers. And check/raising the flop and giving up on the nut bluffcard turn seems pretty bad too. What are your thoughts on that?

I'd rather say: do not c/r flop! than "do not jam river"

c/r flop and betting lame on the turn is what put us in this dumb river spot.

don't c/r flop when you rep nothing but 3 sets on a dry board, when you might even c/c sets the majority of time on this board.

I dont usually c/r the flop but I don't mind it at all. I would continue on diamonds and my pairs, and on cards that connect with our ranges I would triple barrel. The Q isnt a good bluff card at all. It's practically the most blank card possible. When a 6 or a 9 rolls off on the turn and you barrel through, now that's scary. Blasting this river as played can be okay as a bluff but only with a read. There are many opponents at any stakes who will just snap you off if they have a pair in this spot. There are some others who will grudgingly give you credit for a set this time and fold JJ.
