This is a game of adjustments, not pre formed strategies.

I have the same trouble later in tourneys, and I think the absence of defined guides on the subject lends credence to the fact that play is so variable, there simply is no sure fire way to play.

Typically at the later stages of tourneys I think you really need to have a feel of the table. There never seems to be a set formula for play.

There are a few general patterns I've noticed though.

I find It's usually super tight, with primarily blind stealing and short stacks pushing.

Depending on your stack size, everyone else's, how close to the bubble/final table you are, etc will dictate swings at the table.

I try and pay close attention and take lots of notes. (Is one guy constantly raising to steal blinds? Is someone always folding, just waiting for premium hands?) Capitalize on these situations.

Try and divide the types of players at the table, you can then focus on how the remainders play.

You can usually predict the play of the short stacks, they're fighting for their lives and pushing with all kinds of hands. Big stacks are either sitting on their stacks, or blind stealing, or trying to muscle
short stacks. (or any combo of these)

Im not sure if this will help, but It's what I've noticed so far.

One factor I try to take into consideration is my stack size relative to the blinds. It's easier to play looser when the cost of entering pots is low. That's why smallball tends to be better as a deepstack strategy than when you have a fast structure.

I tried to answer this but didn't seem to matter what I wrote, the answer sounded stupid.
Serioiusly though, how do you expect to predetermine how you're going to play when you don't know what the situations are ahead of time?

You need to play based on your opponents. If they're tight, play loose.

Aha, the good old 'play tight vs loose and loose vs tight' misconception.
