Generally yes, most people reason that putting in a significant proportion of your stack, but not shoving, indicates a big hand. In a way this is similar to real life in that people generally want to distance themselves as quickly as possible from a lie (obviously a bluff in poker).

So often you should apply reverse psychology and shove your premium hands and make significant, but not all-in bets, with your weaker hands.
