    lol its all good.

Usually I try to avoid long internet discussions/arguments because at the end of the day they're pretty fucking useless. However, I've become a lot more interested in politics recently and can't really help myself when that's the topic of discussion.

I have a feeling your becoming interested has brought you to the dark side. Please don't watch Fox News.
That's how winners play; we convince the other guy he's making all the right moves.

haha, well unfortunately from a liberal's point of view I am part of the "dark side". Tbh though I enjoy talking about issues and hearing other people's opinions. I always try to analyze things objectively even though that is hard at times.

Ive figured out that I'm very clearly right leaning on most things except probably more center/left when it comes to social issues. I really don't claim to know that much about politics though

Let me ask you something: if foxnews is so bad why does is absolutely CRUSH everyone else in ratings? Perhaps because America itself leans right? Or perhaps because it really is the most balanced news provider?

Old people. O'Reilly's main demo is 70 year olds. The right-wing is institutionalized xenophobia, bigotry, and ignorance, and old people are the best at those things. Also, propaganda sells very well. That's why Faux Noise is what they are. Don't forget that they've defended their rights in court to lie about news.

The nation is BY FAR a liberal nation on policy, it's just that so few people pay enough adequate attention to politics to actually know how to couple their policy with politics. There are diehard bigots and diehard libertarians, but outside of that, many people who vote right-wing have Eisenhower type policies in mind, which are MEGA MEGA MEGA liberal socialist. Eisenhower was a revered Republican military man, yet he couldn't get elected today in a small local election in the most liberal district in the country. That's how far down the right we've fallen over the years. Reagan couldn't get nominated for POTUS in the Democratic primary, GOPers would run him out of contention in a flash. Even Obama is more right-wing than Bush (the second Bush). It's crazy crazy crazy stuff. There's a reason Limbaugh hammers away that the right-wing strategy should be to go as far right as possible; it's because it shifts the political "center". They've been doing this since around Nixon, and the policy of the nation has moved to right-wing extremism by several magnitudes since then.

Here are some examples. The top tax rate under Republican conservative hero Eisenhower, who helped usher in an era of great prosperity, were over 90%, today it's in the low thirties with an effective rate in the single digits due to insane loopholes, capital gains and estate rates, and overwhelming redistribution of wealth up to the tippy top billionaire earners

More jobs were created under that evil librul Carter than any other four years of an administration since. Carter was a people's champion, he got annihilated by the megacorp powers of his day, and since history is written by the winners, he's been swept under the rug and vilified. Goldman Sachs then brought in their puppet, Ronald Reagan, whom, like already stated, was substantially to the left of Obama

I implore you, examine the policy, history, and motivations of politicians. US corporatism co-opted the GOP a long time ago, they developed the Southern Strategy of bigotry, and it's been nothing but propaganda mill since

Like take a look at what the GOP is demanding in order to not shutdown government. In there is a clause that would prohibit ending war. No joke. It's disgusting. To steal from Chris Rock, the GOP are the guys who steal your TV then come over the next day and say "I heard you got robbed"

You might think I sound like I'm on Team Democrat. Far from it. I really don't like the Democrats too. They're stuck in the need to compete for megacorp funding, so they're very corporatist. But the difference between hate for Dems from liberals and neocons is that the liberals dislike them for actual policy issues while the neocons hate them for fairy tale batshit reasons

Get your news from the internet in a variety of sources. If you like right-wing work, like WorldNetDaily, make sure to spend some time reading liberal work like ThinkProgress. You'll gradually be able to figure it out, but the most important thing is to make sure you don't get your information from a bubble.

I'm trying to think of a question you could have asked that would be more irrelevant than asking about ratings, but I'm having a hard time.

kfaess has become a masterclass troll.

So much so that I can even resist. Is there no other possible reason for Fox News' ratings? It's either America is right leaning or Fox is the most balanced news provider?

lolol I didn't intend my post to mean it has to be one of those things. I was just asking a question and providing two possible answers, neither of which have to be correct.

And I'm certainly not trying to troll, just trying to give my honest opinions. I see nothing wrong with this. Do you not believe these are my real opinions or do you simply not wish people to have opinions that disagree with yours?

Does it have to be one of those two options?

My feeling is this: If you care about this birther stuff, you're not exactly on top of things. I see how it can be suspicious, but can you see how it can be silly?

If you care about Fox News' ratings as a referendum on the political slant of Americans or as a referendum on its own balance, you're quickly betraying yourself as not having a good handle on things. Pretty obviously the vast majority of Americans are doing something other than watching cable news channels and it's not exactly a random sample those who choose to watch Fox vrs those who choose otherwise.

If you think any of the news shows are anything but political noise, you really don't know what you're doing.

So I'm left with two apparent options: Brilliant troll or lost in the noise. How you framed your questions perfectly parroting the style of Fox News contributors, whom I believe are roundly laughed at by the Daily Show generation of which I assumed you were a part, suggested troll.

I don't want to insult you, but if you're getting into politics you're approaching at a terrible angle of incidence. That shouldn't be a knock after all, many Americans are lost in the noise.
