Any Interest in a Poker Study Group?

I've been wanting to start an online poker study group of some kind for a while now. Any interest?

Ideally, it would be a smallish group, exchanging emails and participating in discussions outside of the forums. I'm envisioning a lot of video exchanges and some sweats.

I think it would be great to have a wide range of stakes, games, ages, and experience levels.. but I'd for sure want to see micro players (cash & sng's) and some relatively new players involved.

Anyway, curious for any input. If you don't want to post in this thread then PM me.

Thanks Spoon. I appreciate that FTR has this chat room. I plan to visit it soon, something I should have done a while ago.

Also, I'm appreciative of the work you put into you articles and posts in this forum. I find them to be tremendous and they are one of the tools I would like to utilize in a study group.

All that being said, I would like to have a small group outside of any one particular forum's rules, regulations, and procedures.

A number of years ago now, I was a founding member of a songwriting group that operates similar to what I envision for this poker study group. We communicate mostly through shared video, some email, and common documents on Google Drive (formally Google Docs). This small group of dedicated members, who became friends, had a profound effect on the songwriting skills of all involved, and led to some amazing collaborations.

I've read many times that small Study groups can be one of the most valuable tools for poker players. I believe this based on my similar experience with songwriting. I hope to find out.

It's difficult to find folks to give it a shot, and put the effort involved into it. But worth it.

I did send one person some minor details of my life, just as a way to introduce myself in a friendly fashion. Lesson learned I guess. The rest of this is BS. I never once referenced any kind of form. And I repeat.. I don't have a web site.. not am I an affiliate with anybody or any organization.

I actually really want a study group, but I think atm the ftr chat is the best thing (when it's not dead) because I'm getting loads of valuable tips from people miles better than myself, when I start playing like 50nl+ is around the time you should be trying to surround yourself with other players to talk about poker.

Thanks Savy. It's nice to have someone at least recognize the study group as a legit concept. I mean it 's not like I invented the idea!

Fortunately for me this idea was better received elsewhere. I don't doubt the irc chat is valuable.

As long as it's a fair fight (relatively equal computing power and coding ability) between spam blockers and spammers, there can be no real end-game.

At least re-captcha's are useful for something. They were invented by Luis von Ahn to help digitize books.

I just wanted a smaller dedicated group than a public forum to do it in. I figured there would be other people here that felt the same way.

I wasn't like "screw FTR" let's do our own thing. I thought this could be in addition to anybody's participation other places.

You PM'ed one person giving details of your life which you admit in the above quotes. The email said that you were sending details of your life in the PM. Either the email Jyms received was sent by the person you PM'ed in which case why do you wonder who sent "the lies" or you sent out multiple PMs with the same details and wonder who then reported you.

Well I've been 2+2 member here for a couple of years. Shame on me I haven't spent much time here. That's about to change. Better late than never.

Recently, I withdrew most of what little bankroll I had, leaving only $100. I'm back to 2 NL and $1 sng's for the time being and hope to build from there.

I am returning right to the basics, reading articles and watching training vids like I was new to the game. I will become more active here reading posts and contributing where I can. I will be posting hands. As I start to put the material I cover into practice, I hope to see some success over time.

I've had my ups and downs with online poker over the last few years, but it's been largely recreational for me. It still is, but I want to get better now. I'm committing myself to learning, paying attention to what others have to say and truly considering it, reviewing hands, and focusing on making good decisions.

No more playing more table than I should.. I'll be sticking to 4 or less for the foreseeable future.

I'm also in the process of starting a local poker study group in the city I live in. I'm excited about that and I hope we can make it work.

Look at what you say about considering the advice that you are given in that thread . You posted a hand and didn't really take in what was being said. You were just results orientated about how the rest of the hand went down or had posted it to boast about a great laydown especially when you say that it went down exactly how you expected. Why is anyone going to give you any advice if you won't listen to it. They could easily have had JJ vs AK in that situation in which case it wouldn't have gone down exactly as you had expected.

As for playing 2nl FR of Full tilt. WHY? how mush traffc is there , How many tables as you move up. FR is pretty much dead there, as a result you'll find very few fish and pretty much playing regs . If you want to study , start thinking logically about where you play.

Well Keith, let me first say, that I hope what ever caused you to feel a need to interject yourself in this in such a negative fashion, lashing out at me, and searching my posts on various forums for evidence that I make contradictory statements, has resolved itself and that you now feel some comfort.

To address some of your statements. About the Pm'ing. Perhaps I should have been more clear in my initial statements. Forgive me, I was not anticipating such thorough investigation. I did PM with one member here, but only in response to his PM's to me. I NEVER contacted anybody who hadn't asked me for details first. Even then, I certainly made no mention of a website or registration for anything.

It is this fact, that I never mentioned a website or registration in the PM, that leads me to believe it is at least possible the email to Jyms did not come from the member I was PM'ing with.

Also, I believe there is a significant difference between "some minor details" and "life story". In reality, the PM had just a couple lines about my personal life outside of poker. This discrepancy also lead me to believe it at least possible that this did not come from the member I was PM'ing with.

You see Keith, while not always successful, I try not to rush to judgement, or jump to conclusions about people.

As far as the notion of me sending multiple PM's goes. I think maybe it's time to put that bad boy to bed now? Jyms asked days ago for anyone who received such a message or request for me to post in this thread. A 1000 views later there is nothing. Do you really think I'd still be here blabbing away if I thought there was some out there that could make me out to be a liar? It just didn't happen.

Moving on to the 2+2 thread, although I'm not entirely sure it was appropriate or necessary for you to Segway into that in this thread, I will offer you the following..

First, it should be noted that thread was posted in the "Poker Goals" section of the forum. NOT in the beginner section where would post a hand he was seeking opinions on. I was simply posting an example of, what I thought at the time, was evidence that I was starting to make better decisions. It's very possible that I made an error with the fold. I'm still learning.

Furthermore, when it was suggested by the poster that the lay down was not optimal, you will see that I did in fact respond "you may well be right. Maybe flatting for the set-mining was the right move. Could have folded to the shove no-problem. Something for me to think about."

So I'm not really sure where you got the impression that I wasn't "taking in what was being said". I assure you the reverse is true. I am and have been considering it.
