    Default [5NL] 44...Line check

    CO - 26/8/0 (3bet) over 83 hands.

BU - 37/25/3 over 106 hands. Pretty passive post-flop, if he was going to get aggro it would be on the flop.

    PokerStars - $0.05 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 4 players
    Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

    UTG: $7.54
    BTN: $5.70
    SB: $5.66
    Hero (BB): $7.20

SB posts SB $0.02, Hero posts BB $0.05

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.07) Hero has 4 4

UTG raises to $0.25, BTN calls $0.25, fold, Hero calls $0.20

    Flop: ($0.77, 3 players) 8 4 J
Hero bets $0.54, fold, BTN calls $0.54

    Turn: ($1.85, 2 players) 2
Hero checks, BTN bets $0.20, Hero raises to $1.50, fold

I wasn't sure whether to lead the flop but I wasn't really comfortable checking as I didn't know if PFR was likely to cbet this flop (had no cbet stats on CO) so I didn't want them to peel a free card.

OTT the plan was to try and get to a cheap showdown by c/c reasonably sized bets. He then bets out stupidly small, I don't think I could just call as he could just bet the river pretty big assuming I was weaker than what I am. So I decided to raise...

    Thoughts?

Bet the turn; this check is horrible. 44 is miles ahead of his calling range here so you need to get value from all his many TP, nfd and pair + draw combinations. A cheap showdown shouldn't even enter into your head at this point. As played yeah you must raise for the same reason that checking is bad.

Tons of his pair + FD's will check back the turn.

I like your flop donk, so now just donk three streets. Re-evaluate when you get raised on any street.

The only thing winning is a bigger set or Flush (all of which are very unlikely). At these stakes, there is no need to try and slowplay your big hands as your goal should always be to get max value and a fish will usually find a way to call you with much worse. Just going off BTNs stats he is looks like a fish. The board is super wet so the last thing you want is to give any free cards to complete any straight or flush draws. Donk bet flop and turn for sure, then if nothing connects bomb the river, lol.

You're raising because you're worried about giving a villain who's postflop an idea to bluff you big on the river? A bluff you should be happy to call on non-paired-diamond rivers? You're thinking about the wrong things, and you're thinking about those things wrong. When you have a strong hand against weak players the dominating thought should be "value". Bet flop and turn large so we can stack a jack or at least get value from a single diamond.

Yeah it's a habit I have had for a while and I can't seem to break it. I usually think along the lines of "Villain could have ATC here, in this hand for example he could have 92dd", and I absolutely hate the thought of v-towning myself.

I know it's the wrong way to think and I am trying to change it.

If you never value-town yourself then you're not value betting enough. You gotta spend money to make money etc.

flop donk is fine in this spot, i'd donk either very small or closer to pot in this spot and 3b shove vs a raise. Checking is ok too, so long as it's to check-raise

I don't understand. You have a pretty nutted hand here, you want to get the chips in.

i go $0.6 on flop. as played i'd bet like $1 or $1.10 on the turn

edit: actually probably go closer to pot so we can stick the rest in on the river if we wish
