I love the way that people who advocate an intelligence-based exclusive democracy think everyone else's ignorant horseshit is horseshit but that their ignorant musings are some kind of golden nuggets of wisdom.

Keith, if you were running such a democracy, can you really say you'd allow yourself the vote? Can you?

Of course I would. People should be voting on the issues and have an understanding of the issues , not because they have always voted for one party or another or a leader looks well presented, or isnt one of the other parties. As an example , independent MP Richard Taylor won and retained the wyre forest seat fighting on the issue of saving the local hospital. His constituents were made aware of a local issue and they supported him over the mass media advertising of the major parties. Issues should be the priority , not personalities. Not only would his election to parliament have helped the health service in his constituency but in debates on health service issues across the country.

I'd go further if i had my way, the shadow ministers would ideally have a background in the sector they are minister for, they should truly "shadow " the actual ministers , attend all the meetings where civil servants advise the minister so when the election is settled , the shadow ministers if they are elected already have a firm grasp of the situation, they know the civil servants who they will then be working with and they don't end up with the first few months being a training session .
