I like wuf's interactions with me while this was going on, in retrospect. His tone was relaxed and somewhat smug. He knew something I didn't. If this was a desperate wolf plan, I think he'd have been more nervous.
You've nailed it on all points. Nothing in wuf/rascal or me looks like a panic group trying to right a mistake that would have been a HUGE mistake (not pairing up at the beginning of the game).
