Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen

FullTilt pro Gus Hansen has had a very strong showing this 2011 year by earning the top spot in winnings for online poker in January, February and almost March as well. A week into this April, it looks as if Hansen’s hot streak is finally cooling off.

Gus has skyrocketed his career earnings by winning an impressive $4.5 million in the first three months of the year. In fact, if you look at his results since even October 2010 you will see that he has won around $8 million, just in online cash games, after being down $3.5 million in the beginning of that year. However, in just one week he would see a big chuck of that go to various opponents. According to highstakesdb.com, he is down nearly $1 million in the first week of April.

All in all, Gus played 8,568 hands during his disastrous week. He decided to give a go at the $300/$600 6-Max PLO games against Omaha greats NoPasaran, Tom Dwan and gavz101. Hansen earned the unfortunate title of the biggest loser during those games. It wouldn’t get any easier when he decided to play various heads-up battles against BlueFirePoker pro Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond. Again, Hansen would lose hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Despite Gus’ bad run, he is still up a nice $3 million in 2011 and remains at the top position in total money won online. He even won back $450,000 of it by playing the $1500/$3000 2-7 Triple Draw games on April 7th so a comeback is not out of the question.

It will be interesting to keep an eye out on Hansen and if he can gain back momentum to have the most winnings this year. The bad part is that he obviously hit a little bump in the road early this month. The good, if you can call it that, is that many other top pros lost a large chunk that same week, not to mention Gus is already gaining some of losses back. It should be interesting!
