One of the more interesting events of the 2009 World Championship of Online Poker has come to an end. The $500+$30 No-Limit Triple Shootout is in the books. The $500,000 guarantee ended up being just that, as 1,000 players ponied up for a chance at over $91,000 in first-place money. For those unfamiliar with this structure, the best way to describe it is as a 3-part SNG. The first 1,000 players sit at 10-handed tables until only one person is remaining. From there the next 100 (who all make the money) play down to the final table of 10 players.
One PokerStars professional, Victor Ramdin, nearly crashed the final table party before busting in 12th place. Despite his presence, there were plenty of big names making making the final table. One of the more recognizable names in high-stakes poker, Jorge “twin-caracas” Arias, busted in 8th place for $12,500. Finishing 2 spots better was feared high-stakes limit player “Vandiesel”, who assumed the early chip-lead at the final table before falling by the wayside. Rounding out the more well-known names was Connor “blaconegro” Drinan who nearly won the Sunday Million in July, finishing in 4th place for $79,500.
There were multiple discussions of chip chops through out the final table; however, chip-leader “iCeVeNoM” never quite received the deal he wanted. Eventually he became heads-up with “dynamoM”. iCeVeNoM is no stranger to success on PokerStars, having cashed for $10,000 or more 20 times entering this final table. In the end iCeVeNoM’s chip-lead was too much to handle for dynamoM as he took down the title with ease and $91,250. Congratulations goes to the final-table contestants and the other 90 players who made the moeny in Event #17!
