In a year which has seen all manner of setbacks for poker players, it’s nice to know that some things will never change. Come the beginning of September, PokerStars’ 2011 installment of the World Championship of Online Poker figures to be the company’s best running to date.
In total, more than $30 million will be up for grabs over the span of the WCOOP’s 62 total events. The action will kick off on September 4th and run all the way through the 25th. This will mark the tenth anniversary of the WCOOP, and PokerStars is doing all they can to celebrate. Satellite tournaments will be available for as little as $1 apiece, with direct buy-ins ranging from $109 to a whopping $10,300. The most anticipated contest, as always, will be the Main Event. This particular match will feature a $5,200 buy in, with a guaranteed prize pool of $5,000,000. The winner, for their part, is guaranteed to rake in a minimum of $1,000,000.
In a recent PokerStars press release, two-time WCOOP bracelet winner Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier had this to say about the coming event: “I can’t wait to start playing WCOOP. It’s the only online tournament series in the world that gives such amazing structures and prize pools! It’s time to take a shot at my third WCOOP bracelet. Join me!”
Unlike previous seasons, this year’s events will feature a variety of starting times. Games will begin at one of the following Eastern Times: 6:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 14:00 or 17:00. Here’s the complete schedule, ripped straight from the same release:
