RISE Poker, a newly launched U.S. legal poker site, has announced the members of their inaugural pro team. And for a site that’s just gone live, they’ve done pretty well for themselves.

Headlining the group is Scotty Nguyen, who fans have long known as “The Prince of Poker.” His fame exploded with the WSOP’s widespread television coverage, thanks to his boisterous (and often hilarious) banter at the tables. Over his career, Nguyen has captured five WSOP bracelets and one WPT title.

Next up is Maria Ho, who has quickly emerged as one of the top female players on the tournament circuit. Her recent runner-up finish in the 2011’s fourth WSOP event (a $5,000 NLHE affair) “was the largest single cash by a female player in WSOP history,” according to a RISE press release.

Rounding out the group are pros Jean-Robert Bellande and Dani “Ansky” Stern, both of whom are highly regarded within the gaming industry.

Said Steve “Chops” Preiss, RISE Poker Executive Vice President of Business Development, “As some of the game’s most recognizable and entertaining personalities, Scotty, Maria, Jean-Robert and Dani have exactly what we’re looking for — legit game at the tables as well as genuine mainstream appeal. Our RISE Poker community are going to have a lot of fun competing against and connecting with these pros.”

But the question you’re asking is this – With all of the legal headaches, how does a US-Friendly poker site stay afloat, let alone open its doors for business? Simple. By charging a small membership fee, the site finds itself classified as a private club. And, since no real money is required to buy into their tournaments, players will not be wagering live cash at the tables. The prizes, however, are very real.

It’s an interesting idea, one that’s already being championed by such sites as ClubWPT and GoldRush. Here’s hoping it catches on.
