The Full Tilt Online Poker Series continued Tuesday, November 16th, with a rather interesting tournament. Every poker player has heard of Rush Poker and the excitement that comes with playing Full Tilt’s innovative game. Rush Poker has stretched out into the tournament world and has made its way to the FTOPS. FTOPS Event 18 featured Rush Poker tables, but that’s not all. It was structured as a Super Turbo meaning players start out with only 300 chips and blinds begin at 15/30. This left players with only 10 big blinds to work with on Rush Poker tables. This was surely a recipe for exciting poker play and loads of all-in action. Full Tilt Poker’s $350,000 guarantee lured 1,841 players to pay the $207 + $9 buy-in. The top 189 players would receive a piece of the $381,087 prize pool.
Cuong “Soi” Nguyen was the host of FTOPS Event 18. Nguyen earned his nickname “Soi” from his love of soy sauce. He was part of the 2010 November Nine and the oldest player at that table (at the age of 37). This was Nguyen’s first World Series of Poker and only fourth tournament ever. He was certainly the least experienced player at the final table. At the final table, Nguyen lasted almost as long as FTOPS Event 18; his AdKc was busted by his opponent’s QsQs only 28 hands into the final table.
Nguyen wasn’t the only Full Tilt Pro trying their luck at this fun event. Players such as Brandon Adams, Dag Mikkelsen, David Pham, Huckleberry Seed, Michael Craig, and Scott Fischman also took part in the Wednesday’s event. One of these Full Tilt Pros would go on to win the tournament.
Only an hour and a half after the tournament started, it was finished. Ironically, it was the host, Soi Nguyen, who bested 1,840 other players to take home the gold jersey and $78,503.92 first prize. The complete results were as follows:
