With FTOPS XII in full swing this week’s Sunday Tournament Report will be more of a focus on PokerStars happenings.  For those looking for FTOPS updates, please check out the FlopTurnRiver news section for write-ups on the bigger events.  It took a bit of a “faux-holiday” to keep the tournament grinders away from PokerStars this past weekend.  Mother’s Day hit the site hard, forcing Stars to pay overlay in events which typically never have problems reaching their guarantees.

The first event of the day, the Sunday Warm-Up, has been easily beating its guarantee this entire year.  However, Mother’s Day brought even the biggest tournaments to its knees, forcing PokerStars to pay over $60,000 in overlay to the entrants.  For a tournament consistently passing 4,000 entrants, it just goes to show how many people love their Mothers! Taking home the title in a 4-way deal (not reflected in these payouts) was “Dutchvinny”, a player who had very minimal success on PokerStars before yesterday.  In fact, this was only his 2nd five-figure score, easily besting a win in a smaller $109r last August for $19,250.

The Sunday Million also saw a drop in attendance, forcing PokerStars to fay over $100,000 in overlay to their entrants.  The final four players decided to a chip-chop, leaving a necessary $30,000 remaining for the eventual champion, “NORCALonica.”  The $163,000+ score is his bigger cash by far.  Before this win his best score was a $1,594 cash last year.  Here’s the final hand and chop-adjusted payouts:

The Sunday500 did not see a big hit to their attendance this week, which goes to prove, big buy-in tournament pros have no heart.  The final table saw some big names make deep runs including “xthesteinx,” a tournament professional with over 50 5-figure scores on PokerStars alone. This third place finish for $47,500 is his 4th biggest score on Stars, behind wins in the $109r and two wins in the $215r.  Eventual champion “bigcoop23” also has had a lot of success on Stars; however, this score was by far and away his biggest win, eclipsing a $25,360 cash in the $109r last year.

For once a PokerStars sponsored professional made the final table of a Sunday major.  Bill Chen, well-known for his book “The Mathematics of Poker” and appearances on High-Stakes Poker, finished in 3rd place for over $22,000.  Heads-up play came down to “BR@V0” and “wally1964.” BR@V0 was able to outlast wally and take home the title and $41,082, easily his biggest score.  Interestingly enough BR@V0 won the PokerStars $200k last year, now known as the quart-million, for $22,222.  That event is only an $11 buy-in and consistently has the biggest field of the week.

The final event on PokerStars was the Sunday Second Chance, a $250,000 guaranteed event which gives every player one last chance to take down a major win.  The biggest name reaching the final table was pro “s00tedj0kers,” who has 3 wins in the $109r and runner-up finishes in a $1,050 event and the second chance last year.  This time he was not as fortunate as he busted in 5th for just over $13,000. The tournament was won by Duffman08 for over $47,000.  This was his biggest score, passing a $30,804 cash for finishing 6th in the Sunday Million last May.

The Sunday Mulligan was the only regular tournament that ran on FullTilt this past Sunday.  The tournament was fortunate enough to pass their $200,000 guarantee by gaining 1,096 entrants.  Eleven FullTilt pros played in the event including Gavin Smith, David Pham, and Lee Watkinson. Unfortunately, none of the pros made the money.  The biggest name making the final table was apestyles, a big MTT winner who placed third for over $23,000.
