Fresh off an extremely successful 2009 WCOOP campaign, PokerStars was looking to see some big improvements in their Sunday majors. Well, while all of the tournaments managed to reach their guarantees, there wasn’t quite the same boost that FullTilt received from last month’s FTOPS. Either way PokerStars still remains the predominant site for Sunday Tournaments, as once again the Sunday Majors generated more than $3,000,000 in prize pools this weekend.

Getting the day going was the Sunday Warm-Up. The final table was graced by PokerStars professional Alexandre “allingomes” Gomes, a solid tournament player who won a WSOP bracelet in 2008. He also won the WPT Bellagio Cup for over $1,187,000 and took 4th in the PCA for $750,000. Online he has had mixed success, having never won a major. Unfortunately for Gomes this final table was more of the same, as he busted in 8th place for just over $11,000. Heads-up play came down to “Sn0wb4ll” and “KenT351”, two players with no $10,000+ registered scores to their name entering the final table. In the end KenT351 took down the title and over $138,000 when he was able to suck-out on Sn0wb4ll’s top pair:

The Sunday Million Final Table had a few familiar faces, including “LuckyLukeKK” who nearly shipped the Sunday Brawl on FullTilt last year. He has won a major, taking down the ECOOP III event #11 for $34,500 on TitanPoker last December. Joining him was “Doulas12”, a former winner of the Sunday Million, taking home $184,500 last October for his win. Once play became four-handed the remaining players agreed to a chip-chop, leaving $30,000 on the table. The chop took quite a while to complete, as one player did not speak English. Below are the final table starting-stacks, bust-out hands, and chop-adjusted pay-outs:

The $215r provided another stellar final table, including Dan “Wretchy” Martin, a top-50 ranked tournament professional who just finished off a successful WCOOP. Joining him was “aprilsfool”, a professional with over $1,500,000 in cashes on PokerStars alone including a 2nd place finish in the Sunday Million in July for over $176,000. Rounding out a great trio of poker players was “thorladen”, winner of the Sunday500 last November and this very event last October. Unfortunately for the railbirds all three busted early at the final table. The departure of the more seasoned pros left room for “Paolo69” and “gregior” to battle it out for the title and over $35,000. Paolo was looking for a big score to get him over the $1,000,000 mark in earnings on PokerStars. He has a ton of $10,000+ cashes, including a big win in the $109r for nearly $79,000 in August. This wasn’t gregior’s first rodeo either, as he already had $1M+ in cashes on PokerStars including multiple wins in the $109r and a few close calls in the $215r. In the end Paolo69 won a lengthy heads-up battle for the title and $35,752:

While the $215r had a solid final table, it could not keep up with the numerous big names making the final nine of the Sunday500. Coming in as one of the bigger favorites had to be Jim “Mr_BigQueso” Collopy, a tournament professional who nearly shipped this very event in May, taking 2nd for $63,500. His biggest victory was a win in the $109r for nearly $30,000 last year. He has also final tabled the Million, taking 5th last November for $56,792. Joining him was Ryan “ryanbluf” Karp, a top-50 ranked professional with numerous big scores to his name. Karp nearly shipped the Super Tuesday in March, taking 2nd for $52,500. He also finished 2nd in the $109r in February for $31,000. Top-40 ranked “belabacsi” finished 3rd in the 500k, earning just over $48,000. While the $48k is nice, it is dwarfed by his final table performance in the WCOOP Main Event, as he finished 5th there for $173,420. In the end Collopy was able to take down the title and a new biggest score, $87,681:

Finishing off a big day of tournaments on PokerStars was the $200,000 guaranteed Second Chance. This tournament has consistently broken the $250,000 barrier yet PokerStars refuses to up the guarantee. Write your congressman ASAP people! Heads-up came down to “woodbrave” and “GypsieChris”. Chris was fresh off a solid WCOOP, final-tabling the $500 2-day Event #11 for over $68,000. Woodbrave has not been as fortunate. Heading into this final table, his best score was a 6th place finish in this same event for $10,625 in May. In the end GypsieChris outlasted woodbrave when he flopped trip 3’s:

FullTilt continues to build off a successful FTOPS campaign. Their three Sunday majors, the Brawl, $750k, and Mulligan all crushed their respective guaranteed in another strong showing for the world’s 2nd biggest poker site. The first event of the day was the Sunday Brawl, a $350,000 guaranteed Knock-Out event which pays $40 to a player every time he/she busts a fellow competitor. This week nearly 2,400 players created a $478,200 prize pool. Just under 20 of FullTilt’s sponsored professional were on hand for the early event, including Lee Watkinson, David Pham, and Chris Klecz. Taking down the title was a player with very little previous success on FullTilt, “seigo74”. The $97,529 first-place check was by far and away his biggest score, easily besting a $1,180 cash in May.

The $750,000 guaranteed is FullTilt’s biggest weekly tournament. Once again the event gathered more than 4,000 entrants, creating a $801,600 prize pool. Twenty-six FullTilt Red Pros played in the event including Scott Fischman, Roy Winston, and Berry Johnston. Top-50 ranked professional “goodvibe” made a final table appearance, taking 8th place for over $14,000. This score didn’t come close to cracking his top-10 scores, which includes a win in the 1/4Milllion on Stars for over $60,000 and a victory in the $109r for over $37,000. Heads-up play came down to two lesser known players, “want2bedomnated” and “AmazingMiss”, both of whom did not have a $10k+ score to their name.

Completing another big day at FullTilt was the $200,000 guaranteed Sunday Mulligan. The appropriately-named event gives players one final shot at a big Sunday score. Much like the Second Chance on Stars, this tournament consistently crushes its guarantee. The Mulligan had a bit of a weak showing from FullTilt’s pros, as only 11 entered the event. Two pros made the money, David Pham (82nd) and Roy Winston (38th) couldn’t quite muster the magic to make the final table. Eventual champion “Ton Locsta” is no stranger to success on FullTilt, having nearly won the Sunday $1K in April for $50,400. The $53,325 first place check in the Mulligan put him close to the $250,000 in total money won on the site.
